The Material Handler is responsible for the timely, accurate, and efficient movement of raw materials, work-in-process (WIP), and finished goods throughout a fast-paced aerospace component manufacturing environment. This position plays a critical role in maintaining production flow while ensuring strict compliance with aerospace quality, traceability, Foreign Object Debris (FOD), and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) control requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, identify, and transport materials to production cells, stockrooms, and shipping areas.
  • Issue and replenish materials to manufacturing operations while maintaining uninterrupted production flow.
  • Accurately perform inventory transactions using ERP or warehouse management systems.
  • Maintain complete lot and batch traceability for all aerospace materials, ensuring material accountability from receipt through shipment.
  • Verify part numbers, quantities, revision levels, and certifications before material movement.
  • Ensure all materials are properly labeled, packaged, and stored according to company and customer requirements.
  • Perform cycle counts and support inventory accuracy initiatives.
  • Operate material handling equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, and carts.
  • Maintain organized storage locations using Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles.
  • Communicate material shortages, discrepancies, or quality concerns to supervisors and production personnel.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce waste.

Quality & Compliance Responsibilities

  • Strictly adhere to Foreign Object Debris (FOD) prevention requirements by maintaining clean work areas, accounting for tools and materials, and immediately reporting potential FOD hazards.
  • Follow all Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) handling procedures, including proper use of grounding equipment, ESD-safe packaging, and designated protected work areas.
  • Maintain complete material traceability by ensuring lot numbers, batch numbers, serial numbers, and certifications remain intact throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Prevent material mix-ups through accurate identification, segregation, and documentation.
  • Comply with AS9100 quality standards, customer specifications, and all applicable company procedures.
  • Participate in quality audits and support corrective action activities when necessary.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Basic computer skills with experience using ERP/MRP or inventory management systems.
  • Ability to accurately read work orders, material travelers, packing slips, and inventory documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift and move materials up to 35 pounds.
  • Stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach throughout the workday.
  • Safely operate material handling equipment.
  • Ability to work overtime and flexible schedules as production demands require.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Aerospace, defense, or medical device manufacturing experience.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Kanban, FIFO, and 5S methodologies.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 quality systems and aerospace documentation requirements.
