SUMMARY OF POSITION FUNCTION:

Assists in administering the Center’s Health and Wellness Services Program. 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist the Health and Wellness Services program in accordance with DOL guidelines, federal, state and city laws and regulations.

• Oversees scheduling of sick call, infirmary coverage, and environmental health, physical and dental exams in accordance with DOL guidelines.

• Inspects the food service facility and dormitories regularly.

• Assist with the management of medical records and the Health Management Information System.

• Develops and maintains an inventory control system for medication, equipment and medical supplies.

• Conducts inventories of supplies and medications monthly.

• Communicates with parents, legal guardians and other personnel regarding students’ health and well-being.

• Purchases medication and medical supplies.

• Participates in nurses’ on-call rotation.

• Functions as staff nurse as needed.

• Collects data and maintains wellness monthly Utilization Report.

• Plans, organizes and controls the use of overtime and on-call staff to insure compliance with Center and ETR policy and procedures.

• Models appropriate behaviors, mentors students and monitors both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.

• Ensures the proper storage, handling and disposal of hazardous wastes generated by the health and wellness center 

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

• Thorough knowledge of nursing techniques and practices

• Proven ability to lead and support a team

• Thorough knowledge of nursing techniques and practices

• Knowledge of current state and federal laws regulating health care and patient privacy (HIPPA)

• Strong organization skills and communication skills, both oral and written

• Familiarity with medical needs of young adults

• Meticulous documentation/recording skills and attention to detail; excellent time management

• Ability to multi-task in a fast-changing environment

• Proficient in the use of a personal computer and computer software including MS Word, Excel and Outlook 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• State Licensed Registered Nurse. 

EXPERIENCE:

• Three years’ experience as a practicing nurse. 

• Must possess a valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record
