Role description:

  • As a Product Line Engineer (PLE) you will be working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, collaborating with nearly all business functions to ensure success of the manufacturing product line.
  • This position primarily supports the assembly & test of avionics and other aerospace computers utilized across multiple commercial and military applications.
  • This role offers opportunities to engage in new technology, select and advise on capital expenditures, and complete productivity projects that help meet the business objectives.
  • This role requires strong technical skills in electrical engineering, but also requires knowledge of electromechanical assembly. You will apply your electrical skills to the assembly and test process and expand your mechanical skills to improve your overall engineering capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing technical support for entire production process including assembly, test, and inspection, as well as supporting operations in meeting production commitments.
  • Participate in cross-functional team efforts to improve yield, throughput, capacity, and overall product quality. Including capital equipment, process definition, or tool creation. Guided and evaluated against the cost/benefit of the change.
  • Identify component test failure trends and perform root cause analysis, Including implementing corrective actions for resolution.
  • Work with technicians to train them on products, test systems and component level troubleshooting. 
  • Effectively communicate issues with supplier material, sometimes requiring direct interface with the external supplier.
  • Develop working knowledge of any assigned test systems and hardware.
  • Evaluate performance and reliability of existing test equipment, and work with Test Equipment Engineers to develop solutions for decreasing test equipment downtime and test equipment induced failures.
  • Provide capacity planning and utilization analysis for accurate staffing and test equipment needs. Identify new manufacturing approaches that will increase operational productivity.
  • Collaborate with other Product Line Engineers of varying engineering backgrounds to share knowledge across the team.
  • Interface with design engineering in coordinating design changes required for sustaining production during the resolution of obsolete parts, tolerance interference, and test yield issues.
  • Support of process audits (internal and external).
  • Willingness to complete required tasks with appropriate urgency and time commitment.
  • Limited travel to suppliers or customers possible.

Required Qualifications: 

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or other electronics related engineering degree from an ABET accredited university.
  • 5 years of experience as an Electrical Engineer as well as 2 years of experience as a manufacturing engineer, in manufacturing or electronics troubleshooting environment.
  • Hands-on experience in component level troubleshooting on complex circuit cards including utilization of multimeters, oscilloscopes or other electronics diagnostic equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Proficiency with Lean manufacturing initiatives, root cause analysis, and process improvement.
  • Programming knowledge in Python or LabView
  • Circuit card, wiring harness/cables, industrial computer design, or manufacturing background
  • Basic mechanical aptitude (fixture design, mechanical assembly, etc.)
  • Problem-solving skills with ability to proactively identify alternate solutions to overcome difficult technical challenges and mitigate risks.
  • Understanding of statistics and the ability to proactively identify and act upon trends in data.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve operational goals.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to facilitate difficult conversations and communicate easily and concisely with individuals at all organizational levels and functions.
  • Experience utilizing AI for data and statistical analysis
  • J-STD-001 Standard experience
