Machine Operator - 1st Shift

Tamarack Packaging | Meadville, PA

Tamarack Packaging is seeking a motivated and dependable Machine Operator to join our production team. This position reports to the Production Manager and works closely with other machine operators, quality personnel, and production team members to ensure the safe and efficient production of high-quality packaging products that meet customer specifications and company standards.

The Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, monitoring, and maintaining manufacturing equipment while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, productivity, and continuous improvement.

Shift Details

1st Shift

  • Monday through Friday
  • 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM
  • Two paid 10-minute breaks
  • One 30-minute unpaid lunch
  • Overtime opportunities may be available based on production schedules and customer demand.

Primary Responsibilities

The Machine Operator will:

  • Perform machine setups and production changeovers.
  • Operate manufacturing equipment according to established work instructions and production schedules.
  • Monitor production processes and make adjustments as necessary to ensure product quality and machine performance.
  • Perform basic machine troubleshooting and preventative maintenance.
  • Conduct quality inspections and verify products meet customer and company specifications.
  • Accurately record production, scrap, downtime, and other required operational data.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and environmental standards.
  • Work collaboratively with Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams to achieve daily goals.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and best practices throughout the facility.

Depending on production demands, operators may be required to work across multiple production lines and equipment.

As an important member of the Tamarack Packaging team, you will play a key role in producing quality packaging products safely, efficiently, and effectively while contributing to customer satisfaction and operational excellence.

Previous machine operation experience and knowledge of manufacturing processes are preferred; however, training may be provided to qualified candidates who demonstrate a strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, and commitment to safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities, Duties & Competencies

  • Safely and efficiently operate production machinery and equipment.
  • Consistently meet productivity, quality, and efficiency expectations.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and operational adjustments on equipment.
  • Read and understand production specifications, work orders, and basic drawings.
  • Verify measuring devices, gauges, and quality standards.
  • Inspect products to ensure compliance with customer and company requirements.
  • Verify production output and properly disposition non-conforming products.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards and a safe work environment.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Accurately document production data, scrap, quality checks, and downtime.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and maintain accurate records.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and problem-solving activities.
  • Properly inspect and handle tooling, materials, and equipment.
  • Maintain knowledge of environmental, safety, and quality requirements.
  • Work effectively as a team player while promoting a positive workplace culture.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to quality, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Manufacturing or machine operation experience preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to lift, move, and handle materials as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks throughout the shift.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
