Position Summary:Â
The Production Planner is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating production activities to ensure on-time delivery, efficient resource utilization, and optimal workflow throughout the manufacturing process. This role works closely with production, purchasing, engineering, quality, and shipping to balance customer demand, material availability, and plant capacity while driving continuous improvement in safety, quality, and productivity.
Primary Position Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules based on customer orders, inventory levels, and production capacity.
- Coordinate with production, purchasing, and warehouse teams to ensure raw materials and components are available to support schedules.
- Monitor production progress and adjust schedules to address equipment downtime, labor availability, material shortages, or changing customer priorities.
- Analyze capacity, workflow, and lead times to maximize efficiency and minimize bottlenecks.
- Communicate schedule changes and production priorities to plant leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as schedule attainment.
- Maintain accurate production planning data within the ERP/MRP system.
- Collaborate with customer service and sales to provide realistic delivery dates and respond to changing customer requirements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on inventory optimization, waste reduction, and process efficiency.
Position Qualifications:
- 3+ years of production planning or scheduling experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.
- Works well in a team environment in addition to being able to work independently.
