POSITION TITLE: Toolmaker I, II, and Senior
SHIFT HOURS: 8:00am to 5:00pm (days)
LOCATION: Onsite at LSI Solutions in Victor, NY
PAY RANGE: $27.10/hour to $46.50/hourĀ
JOB SUMMARY:Ā Supports development of new product designs/concepts/fixtures through fabrication of components. The Toolmakers will operate various machine tools to produce precision components for prototypes and fixtures. The Toolmaker customizes parts needed for on-going projects and development of LSI products.Ā The Toolmaker may operate hand tools and a microscope to assist in the fabrication and assembly of prototypes and fixtures. In addition, the Senior Toolmaker will program machine tools and may assist designers, engineers, and technicians in the planning, fabrication and assembly of prototype devices, tools, and fixtures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Toolmaker I
- Work with the Engineering and Discovery departments on projects, designs, and process improvements.
- Fabricate parts for prototypes and manufacturing to drawing specifications.
- Maintain a high level of attention to detail.
- Keep a customer service mindset.
Toolmaker II
- All essential functions listed above.
- Ability to operate without direct supervision and independently lead small multi-part projects.
- Collaborate with engineers and designers on effective tolerancing and design for manufacturing.
- Teach and develop new or junior machinists and toolmakers.
Senior ToolmakerĀ
- All essential functions listed above.
- Develop processes for the fabrication of both prototype and production parts.
- Recommend and research new machines, software, and capabilities.
- Ability to perform tolerance analysis/toolmaker tolerance/fitment.Ā

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Required for all Levels
- Trade school and/or N.Y.S. Certification Papers, Journeyman Papers required.
Toolmaker IĀ
- 3 ā 5 years experience preferred.
Toolmaker IIĀ
- A minimum of 5 years experience required.
Senior Toolmaker
- A minimum of 10 years experience required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Required for all Levels
- Competencies for this position include effective communication, safety, housekeeping, quantity of work, quality of work, initiative, reliability, attendance, team skills and attitude that support the goals and objectives of the department.
Toolmaker I
- Ability to receive, track and report status of jobs via dashboard (or equivalent).
- Able to run variety of shop equipment including manual machines.
- CAD/CAM experience.
- Experience working with close tolerances.
- Experience working with Engineering/R&D department and drawings.
- Knowledge of raw materials including metals and plastics.
- Must possess strong communication skillsĀ including the use of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Toolmaker II
- Ability to work with Engineering drawings by understanding GD&T tolerancing as well as hand sketches and verbal communications.
- Supplemental design ability to support fabrication.
- Ability to produce programs to machine components on CNC mills and lathes.
- Able to set up and run a variety of shop equipment including manual machines.
- Ability to program based on both 3D and 2D file sources.
Senior ToolmakerĀ
- Advanced knowledge of CAD/CAM and machine tool design.
- Ability to set up and run all machines necessary to produce high precision parts from a variety of materials.
- Knowledge of design concepts to build jigs and fixtures used in production and parts fabrication.
- Advanced knowledge of raw materials including metals and plastics.
- Ability to effectively delegate work to other toolmakers/machinists/technicians.
