JOB TITLE: Clinical Laboratory Scientist

REPORTS TO: Laboratory Director

POSITION SUMMARY: General: Performs all aspects of laboratory testing and reporting as well as organizing work flow to ensure smooth laboratory operation. Performs all other duties as assigned. 

Representative Activities: Performs cross match and blood product preparation for infusion by nursing staff. Performs gram stains, fern testing, wet mounts, manual differentials, urine sediment microscopic, and crystal examinations. Performs manual cell counts on body fluids using the hemacytometer. Evaluates quality control values for acceptability as required. Calls RN with all critical values and record information as required. Reconstitutes calibrators, controls and standards using proper technique. Calibrates instruments and evaluate results of calibration for accuracy and acceptability. Organizes workflow to maintain smooth operation of the laboratory. Advises physicians and nursing staff about laboratory tests as required. 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree required. If Bachelor’s degree not obtained, Associate’s degree required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license required. ASCP preferred. Verification of foreign degree required.
