Job Summary

The primary responsibility of the Operations Supervisor is to supervise the receipt and shipment of materials, supplies, and products.  The Supervisor leads, trains, and develops hourly team members to accurately receive, validate, and ship products in alignment with specified requirements.  This position will be responsible for developing work group standard for performance to measure and improve productivity, efficiency, and accuracy while following distribution standard operating procedures.  Additionally, this position will resolve time-sensitive issues for expedited shipments and receipts.

 

Essential Duties

  • Supervises employee staffing, training, work activities, and development of employees, fostering a positive and motivating work atmosphere.  
  • Creates daily receiving and shipping schedules according to company and customer’s requirements, route, weight, and cost.
  • Develops and upholds procedures to ensure company and delivery commitments are met by efficiently managing labor and materials.
  • Verifies shipped materials against relevant documentation.  
  • Recommends and supports implementation of operational procedures to drive continuous improvement.
  • Collaborates with management and human resources on employment actions such as hiring, discipline, performance evaluations, and promotions.
  • Provides feedback to the site leader regarding staff for annual performance evaluations.
  • Builds morale by resolving conflicts and addressing employee concerns, escalating issues to upper management if needed.  
  • Completes work duties, including operating forklifts and collaborating on tasks with the distribution team.
  • Maintains a visible presence on the floor to identify opportunities for process enhancements and allocate resources promptly to address any shortcomings, ensuring the fulfillment of customer service expectations.
  • Facilitates transfers between distribution facilities as required.
  • Conducts audits to ensure compliance with replenishment processes, verifying transaction accuracy.
  • Validates the correctness of inbound put-away locations and system transactions through regular audits.
  • Investigates location discrepancies, identifies root causes, and resolves issues to maintain inventory and picking location accuracy.
  • Manages inventory supplies to guarantee that adequate quantitates are available to meet operational requirements
  • Initiates and oversees cycle counts, performs counts, and finalizes them promptly, including those requested by auditors.
  • Coordinates the rework of damaged products and ensures accurate inventory adjustments.
  • Ensures a safe work environment in alignment with OSHA, 5S, and other regulatory standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications, Skills, Abilities and Educational Requirements

Required

  • High School Diploma/GED 
  • 4 – 6 years experience in a distribution and/or manufacturing environment, including 1 – 2 years of experience in a supervisory role
  • Certification in forklift or willingness to obtain certification 
  • HAZMAT Certification or ability to become certified
  • Proficient in computer software such as Microsoft Office, warehouse management systems (WMS), and JDE systems 
  • Knowledge of inventory management, planning, and supply chain functions
  • Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task and manage priorities based on management and customer requirements
  • Experience working in a fast paced and high-volume work environment.
  • Proactive “self-starter” with a strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Valid Driver’s License

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Work Environment

This position works within in a distribution work setting with multiple dock doors and minimal temperature control. Will be frequently exposed to seasonal temperatures of excessive cold or heat.  Work environment is often loud, dusty and/or dirty due to the materials required for production.
