Job Title: Cook
 
Home Office: Autumn Ridge Supportive Living - Vienna, IL 
 
Area of Focus: Community Collaboration
 
Program(s): Supportive Living Program - SLP helps adults age 65+ live independently by providing them with housing in an apartment-style setting that emphasizes privacy and autonomy, while also offering services that support their health and well-being and providing a little extra assistance with the activities of daily life.

Immediate Supervisor: Dining Services Manager 

Hours of Work: Full-time, 40 hours/week.  

FLSA Classification: Non-exempt
 
Cook Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED
 
Cook Skills & Knowledge: Knowledge of geriatrics and dietary requirements, Knowledge of kitchen equipment, Experience in food preparation and cooking for large numbers of people; Ability to relate to senior adults, Excellent written and oral communication skills, Basic computer skills.


Cook Special Requirements: Must be 21 years of age or older to drive agency vehicles. Maintains a valid driver’s license and vehicle liability insurance. Operates agency vehicles and personal vehicles while driving for agency business in a safe and lawful manner at all times. Maintain First Aid & CPR certification. Must complete required registry clearances and criminal fingerprint background checks. Able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and lift as needed.
Cook job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Cleans and sanitizes the dining room, kitchen, storage area and dietary equipment as needed. 
  • Prepares and cooks food in accordance with state food and nutrition guidelines.
  • Monitors food temperatures prior to meal service.
  • Records temperatures of food according to established policy and procedure
  • Ensures that an adequate supply of food, supplies, etc. is available at all times. Reports inadequate stock levels to the Dietary Coordinator in a timely manner.
  • Follows recipes for planned weekly menu.
  • Ensures proper quantities of food are prepared.
  • Ensures that food is prepared in accordance with established time schedules.
  • Labels, dates and stores food properly according to established policies.
  • Listens to and employs good judgment when responding to residents. Responds in a timely manner to residents and provides follow up, keeping supervisor informed.
  • Picks up and disposes of dining room and kitchen trash.
  • Treats residents, families, co-workers, public, state officials and consultants with respect, courtesy and tact.
  • Reports all health and safety concerns to Dining Services Manager of facility Director.
  • Ability to screen, assess and provide interventions for consumers that are exhibiting symptoms of trauma.
  • Follows agency policy and procedure for all reports of abuse and neglect or suspected abuse and neglect.
