SteerBridge Strategies is seeking Senior Data Engineers to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Modern Disability Claims. This initiative focuses on modernizing claims processing systems to improve accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness of services delivered to veterans.

 

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will take a leading role in the design, development, and optimization of scalable ETL pipelines, data lakes, and Retrieval. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure data integrity, build automated workflows, and support compliance reporting and analytics capabilities.

Required Qualifications and Responsibilities
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, with a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant work experience.
  • An active or the ability to obtain one is required.
  • RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Build, optimize, and maintain batch and real-time data ingestion pipelines
  • Lead design and implementation of scalable ETL processes across complex, distributed systems
  • Develop and manage data lake architecture for structured and unstructured data
  • Design and author custom feature extraction and validation systems in Python
  • Use AWS Lambda, AWS Glue, Python, and SQL to transform and prepare data for downstream consumption
  • Ensure data quality, lineage, governance, and compliance across all systems
  • Work closely with VA stakeholders and data scientists to support reporting and model development
  • Mentor mid-level and junior engineers, providing technical guidance and peer reviews
  • Document data pipelines, standards, and data product specifications


Professional Experience
  • Deep understanding of ETL frameworks, data lake design, and cloud-based architecture
  • Hands-on experience with cloud services including AWS Glue, Lambda, RDS, and SageMaker, or their equivalents in other cloud environments
  • Deep understanding of ETL frameworks, data lake design, and cloud-based architecture
  • Familiarity with real-time and batch data processing tools and methodologies
  • Experience with data governance, security compliance, and maintaining data quality standards. Employees in this role are responsible for safeguarding sensitive information and must adhere to all organizational security and privacy policies, ensuring the protection, proper handling, and confidentiality of data at all times.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and SQL
