Description
The Solar Installer is responsible for the safe and efficient installation of residential and small commercial solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. This role supports all aspects of the installation process, including mounting solar panels, assembling system components, and ensuring systems are installed in accordance with design specifications, electrical codes, and safety standards.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, comfortable working outdoors and at heights, and has a strong interest in renewable energy and sustainable technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Solar System Installation
- Install rooftop and ground-mounted solar PV systems according to engineering plansÂ
- Assemble and secure racking systems, solar panels, and mounting hardwareÂ
- Assist with inverter installation, wiring, and system connections under supervisionÂ
Site Preparation & Layout
- Prepare job sites, including measuring, marking, and staging materialsÂ
- Interpret basic system designs, layouts, and blueprintsÂ
- Ensure proper alignment and spacing of solar arraysÂ
Electrical & System Integration Support
- Assist licensed electricians with electrical connections and conduit runsÂ
- Support installation of inverters, disconnects, and monitoring systemsÂ
- Ensure installations meet NEC (National Electrical Code) and local requirementsÂ
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all OSHA safety standards and company safety proceduresÂ
- Use fall protection equipment and maintain a safe work environmentÂ
- Conduct job site clean-up and ensure proper disposal of materialsÂ
Quality Control & Troubleshooting
- Inspect installations to ensure quality and compliance with project specificationsÂ
- Identify and report installation issues or defectsÂ
- Assist with system testing and commissioning
Requirements
- High school diploma or GEDÂ
- 1+ years of experience in:Â
- Construction, roofing, electrical, or solar installation (preferred but not required)Â
- Ability to work at heights (rooftops, ladders) and lift 50+ lbsÂ
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportationÂ
- Basic knowledge of hand and power toolsÂ
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with solar PV installationsÂ
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certificationÂ
- NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) certification (or willingness to obtain)Â
- Basic electrical knowledge or experience assisting electriciansÂ
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditionsÂ
- Frequent climbing, bending, kneeling, and liftingÂ
- Comfortable working on rooftops and uneven terrainÂ
