Job Summary: 
 
We are seeking a skilled Fabrication Technician Composites to join our engineering and manufacturing team. This role is responsible for building high-quality prototype and limited-production composite components, with a primary focus on carbon fiber fabrication. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technician with extensive experience in composite manufacturing processes, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.


Responsibilities:

  • Fabricate prototype and low-volume production composite components using carbon fiber, fiberglass, Kevlar, and other advanced composite materials.
  • Perform precision hand lay-up of carbon fiber into custom molds using a variety of composite manufacturing techniques.
  • Prepare molds, tooling, and materials for fabrication, including cutting, kitting, vacuum bagging, and curing operations.
  • Select and apply appropriate composite resins, adhesives, and reinforcement materials based on design and performance requirements.
  • Execute composite finishing operations including trimming, bonding, sanding, machining, and inspection.
  • Work closely with engineering to develop, refine, and improve manufacturing processes for prototype and production parts.
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship while ensuring compliance with quality and safety procedures.
  • Assist in the development and fabrication of tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing aids.
  • Document fabrication processes and provide feedback for continuous process improvement.

Requirements:

  • Must be a US citizen.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of direct experience in composite fabrication.
  • Demonstrated experience with hand lay-up carbon fiber fabrication using custom molds.
  • Strong understanding of composite manufacturing methods, including wet lay-up, vacuum bagging, prepreg processing, resin infusion, and other advanced composite fabrication techniques.
  • Experience working with a variety of composite resin systems, including epoxy, vinyl ester, and polyester, with knowledge of proper selection and application.
  • Successful background and drug screening check.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience fabricating UAV, aerospace, or aircraft fuselage and wing structures.
  • Technical certification in composite manufacturing or related field.
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling or drafting software.
  • Experience operating and fabricating parts using 3D printers and CNC routers.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent hand skills and craftsmanship with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to identify and resolve fabrication issues while maintaining dimensional accuracy and cosmetic quality.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Technical certification in Composite Manufacturing or a related discipline.
  • Associate degree in a technical field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct composite fabrication experience.
  • Aerospace, UAV, motor sports, marine, or other advanced composite manufacturing experience.


 Physical Demands or Work Environment: 

This position is best suited for an individual who enjoys building innovative products in a collaborative, small-team environment. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, dependable, quality-focused, and comfortable working closely with engineers and fellow technicians to develop new products from concept through limited production. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. when required.
