The Sheet Metal Assembler fabricates and assembles sheet metal components and subassemblies according to assembly drawings, specifications, and production requirements. This position measures, fits, fastens, and inspects components using manual, electric, and pneumatic tools while ensuring that completed assemblies meet quality and dimensional standards.

Role and Responsibilities: 

  • Verify sheet metal components, dimensions, and materials by referencing assembly drawings and production specifications.
  • Assemble sheet metal components and subassemblies under the direction of supervision.
  • Measure, mark, align, fit, and fasten parts using rivets, screws, bolts, and other approved fastening methods.
  • Operate manual, electric, and pneumatic tools used in sheet metal assembly, including drills, impact drivers, rivet guns, grinders, and cutting tools.
  • Perform basic sheet metal fabrication tasks, including cutting, drilling, punching, bending, fitting, and deburring parts as required.
  • Verify completed assembly dimensions using tape measures, squares, calipers, and other measuring tools.
  • Inspect components and completed assemblies for defects, damage, proper alignment, and overall workmanship.
  • Report incorrect parts, material defects, dimensional issues, and deviations from assembly drawings to supervision.
  • Handle sheet metal materials safely to prevent personal injury and damage to finished surfaces.
  • Follow all health and safety requirements, company procedures, and established quality standards.
  • Perform daily cleanup of the assigned work area and return tools and equipment to their designated storage locations at the end of each shift.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisors and managers.

Skills and Abilities: 

  • Must be willing and able to adapt to different assembly and fabrication tasks based on production needs.
  • Must be able to read, interpret, and follow assembly drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
  • Ability to accurately use tape measures, squares, calipers, and other measuring devices.
  • Ability to operate manual, electric, and pneumatic hand tools safely.
  • Basic understanding of sheet metal materials, gauges, dimensions, and fabrication methods preferred.
  • Ability to identify defects, incorrect dimensions, and improperly assembled components.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a production team.
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail and maintain consistent quality and productivity.
  • Experience operating material-handling or lifting equipment is preferred.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to perform repetitive lifting, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, standing, and other physically demanding tasks throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift and move materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and work for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in production areas may experience excessive heat during the summer and cold during the winter.
  • Must be able to safely handle sheet metal components that may have sharp edges.
  • Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, gloves, and safety footwear.

Qualifications and Education Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous sheet metal fabrication, assembly, manufacturing, or construction experience preferred.
  • Previous experience reading assembly drawings or blueprints preferred.
  • Previous experience using manual, electric, and pneumatic tools preferred.
