The Medical Assistant supports physicians and clinical staff in a pain management setting by providing high-quality patient care, assisting with procedures, and ensuring efficient clinical operations. This role requires strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and a compassionate approach to patients experiencing chronic pain.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Clinical Support
- Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and injections (e.g., epidural steroid injections, trigger point injections)
- Obtain and document vital signs, pain scores, medical histories, and medication lists
- Assist providers during in-office pain management procedures
- Perform injections, EKGs, phlebotomy, and wound care as permitted by scope of practice
- Set up and clean procedure rooms following infection control standards
- Sterilize instruments and maintain clinical supplies
- Medication & Compliance
- Review and reconcile medications, including controlled substances
- Assist with urine drug screens and chain-of-custody documentation
- Support compliance with pain management protocols and regulatory requirements
- Educate patients on treatment plans, post-procedure care, and medication instructions
- Administrative & Documentation
- Accurately document patient interactions and procedures in the EHR
- Assist with prior authorizations, referrals, and procedure scheduling
- Coordinate follow-up appointments and diagnostic testing
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with HIPAA
- Patient Care & Communication
- Provide compassionate, respectful care to patients experiencing chronic pain
- Address patient questions and concerns professionally and empathetically
- Serve as a liaison between patients, providers, and care teams
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; medical office or billing coursework preferred.
路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Experience: Minimum of one year of experience in a medical office setting, preferably in pain management, orthopedics, or physical medicine.
