The center is committed to providing the highest standard of services and continuously improving quality and patient experience by focusing on processes that best support patients, their families, and the physicians who practice at the facility.


Job Summary: Assists the surgical team before, during, and after the surgical procedure. Provides patient care within the prevailing state standards of practice and according to the policies of the facility. Prepares equipment and supplies prior to the case. Communicates appropriate information to other team members. Helps maintain equipment, supplies, and general cleanliness of the unit. May have additional responsibilities designated by the manager, which may include, but are not limited to providing patient care in other peri-operative departments, serving on committees, and participating in quality improvement projects.


Reporting Relationship: Operating Room Manager


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Knows and adheres to policies of the Center and demonstrates fiscal responsibility.
  2. Follows standards, policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for peri-operative nursing care according to accepted standards.
  3. Maintains and demonstrates current skills and knowledge in aseptic technique, proper scrub technique, cleaning and preparation of equipment, and operating room.
  4. Has equipment and instrumentation prepared and is ready for the case to begin when the patient is brought into the room.
  5. Demonstrates ability to understand the unique needs of each age group of the patient population.
  6. Follows OSHA and other standards for protection against blood borne pathogens and body fluids.
  7. Seeks involvement in activities that promote professional growth and behavior.
  8. Uses good body mechanics and aseptic technique.
  9. Remains calm and functions as a team member during times of stress and in crisis situations.
  10. Counts sponges, needles, and instruments at the direction of the R.N. in charge of the room.
  11. Informs Manager of applicable day-to-day situations.
  12. Follows employee health and other personnel and staffing policies.

Qualifications: Requires high school diploma, current CST certification and valid CPR certification. Proven clinical compentancy required.

Experience:

  • Operating room surgical tech: 1 year (Required)

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patients, physicians and other employees.


Physical Demands: Shall be physically able to stand, walk, and maintain varied body motions and positions for long periods of time. Demonstrates manual dexterity. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The employee shall be able to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or tools. The employee is required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Shall be able to hear and speak. Shall be able to move up to 100 pounds.
