Primary Job FunctionsÂ
This is not an exhaustive list and employees in these classifications frequently may be required to perform additional duties. Not all classifications will be required to perform all job functions.Â
Welds components related to tank cars including tanks, bolsters, underframes, side sills, etc.Â
Performs welded repairs by utilizing air arc cutting torch and stick or wire welding equipment.Â
Uses hand tools and equipment to chip and grind weld, slag or spatter.Â
Repairs, straightens, removes, reworks car parts, brakes, underframes, center plates, gears, couplers, valves, etc. using various hand and power tools.Â
Performs welding and mechanical repairs to tank and hopper cars when required.Â
Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner and reports potential hazards.Â

Eligibility RequirementsÂ
Must have a high school diploma, GED, or pass a Combined Basic Skills TestÂ
Must pass the applicable welding test as prescribed by the companyÂ
Demonstrate job related computational knowledge; for example, be able to read a rulerÂ
Must be able to work effectively and efficiently both as a member of a team and independentlyÂ
Able to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervisionÂ
Ability to read, interpret, and follow documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and assembly instructionsÂ
Safety and quality focusedÂ
Willingness to wear required PPE at all times and always work safely.Â
Be available to work any shift, and be dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including overtime, as allowed per the union contractÂ

Environmental & Working ConditionsÂ
Moderate to heavy physical effort involved. Lifts and carries necessary equipment to car to perform operation. Climbs, walks, and balances on top of car while welding.Â
Possibility of exposure to x-ray radiation hazards.Â
Must follow prescribed safety rules to avoid possible injury.Â
Uses hand tools and equipment to chip and grind off excess weld slag or spatter.Â
