The Patient Admitting and Health Information Supervisor provides leadership and guidance for the Department staff. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supervision of staff and timely posting of work schedules to ensure efficient use of staff time, and minimal use of overtime. Exemplifies excellent customer service skill to every employee and every patient every time. Performs all duties in a manner, which promotes the team concept and reflects the goals, value, mission and philosophy of Saint Francis Health System.

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED. Associate's Degree in healthcare related field preferred.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: None.

Work Experience: 5 – 7 years related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent communication, telephone, customer relations and organizational skills. Ability to work and lead staff in a fast paced environment. Working knowledge of regulatory and accrediting agency requirements. Knowledge of payor requirements for area of responsibility. Working knowledge of on-line computer systems/applications; ability to perform telephone activities concurrent with computer activities. Demonstrated and working knowledge of Medical terminology. Working knowledge of basic business office equipment. Ability to organize and prioritize work in an effective and efficient manner.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Supervises all activities, responsibilities, workflow and functions as assigned in their area of assigned responsibility. Acts as a mentor for staff to ensure competency through orientation, training, cross training of staff. Interviews and hires qualified candidates, assist in counsels and provides disciplinary action; all in conjunction with the facility's Human Resources guidelines. Provides ongoing performance improvement education, support, and coaching to staff. Monitors staff's compliance with all applicable laws and regulations as required by government agencies, other third party payers, TX, DNV, and hospital policy. Ensures that the Admitting and Health Information (HIM) staff complies with departmental and hospital policies and procedures, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Demonstrates respectful, good working relationship, and appropriate communication (verbal & non-verbal) to staff, patients, families, co- workers, physicians and volunteers. Timely posting of staffs work schedule. Monitors overtime and ensures the schedule complies with the authorized budgeted hours. Review time sheets and ensures staffs compliance to the SFHS attendance and punctuality policy. Reports to manager any employee that is not meeting the attendance and punctuality standard. Assists the manager with employee's annual performance review, offers recommendation and valuable input to the process. Conducts employee performance review at the request of manager, for employees that MEET or EXCEED their performance standards. Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager or Director. Assures adequate coverage in both departments. Establishes and monitors staffing levels according to department plan and makes adjustments as necessary (Admitting 24:7, HIM Mon-Fri). Assists manager with quality, service and budgetary initiatives of both departments. Monitors and analyzes performance and productivity to assure standards and goals are met. Acts as a resource on Health Information and as a liaison between the Health Information department, other departments and internal external stakeholders.

Decision Making: Independent judgment in making decisions involving non-routine problems under general supervision.

Working Relationships: Direct Supervision of others - No. of people supervised: (20-30). Prepares and give performance evaluations. Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal/external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
