JOB SUMMARY:

Provides assistance to Product Development by performing tests, recording data and evaluating results for both new and existing applications.  Primary functions will include maintaining and operating complex test equipment.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Thoroughly understand and adhere to the department goals, objectives, and strategy 

  • Establish and maintain credibility throughout the organization as an effective developer of solutions 

  • Present and maintain positive morale amongst employees

  • Plans and fabricates or directs the construction of prototypes to meet customer and company requirements

  • Helps to establish test requirements, if not specified, and develops and performs testing of prototypes to verify reliability and performance

  • Confers with engineers to clarify or resolve problems, and make changes to complete test program

  • Thoroughly records, organizes and reports test data in a clear concise format

  • Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets function and performance specifications

  • Work within specified budget guidelines

  • Maintain, calibrate and operate Product Development test equipment – including dynos, flow benches and data acquisition equipment

  • Provide assistance on warranty repair work and diagnose field problems

  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe lab environment

  • Operate and maintain S&S motorcycle test fleet to ensure safe operation and accurate test results


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experienced working as a test or motorcycle technician or equivalent

  • Air cooled v-twin experience preferred

  • Experience with tuning fuel injection systems and dyno testing is preferred

  • Must have a good driving record and a valid motorcycle operator’s license – or the ability to get one

  • 2 Year Technical Degree preferred with an emphasis in test equipment, internal combustion engine or electronic engine control systems or 4 years experience in similar position

  • Flexible, energetic, forward-thinking, and creative with high moral and ethical standards

  • High analytical ability, good judgment, and strong operational focus

  • Well organized and self-directed

  • Able to relate to people at all levels of the organization in a positive fashion

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; working knowledge of computer applications


WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Work is performed in both an office environment and testing lab environment; employee will be exposed to various noise levels from equipment, tools, and engines

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and may be required to balance, stoop, kneel or crawl. May occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Must comply with safety equipment standards: safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety toe shoes when present in areas where required
