Responsibilities will include:
   

  • Integrating new sensors, actuators, and associated interface hardware into existing vessel control and management systems.
  • Configuring, commissioning, and testing analogue and digital sensor and actuation systems, including signal verification, calibration, and assessment of system performance.
  • Adapting, implementing, and tuning closed-loop control algorithms within PLC-based control systems or similar embedded platforms.
  • Deploying, configuring, and benchmarking vessel control and management software in representative test environments and onboard vessels.
  • Assessing software and system performance against defined functional, operational, and safety requirements; identifying opportunities to improve reliability, responsiveness, and usability.
  • Investigating, diagnosing, and resolving hardware, software, and control-system faults across integrated vessel systems.
  • Carrying out structured fault finding using diagnostic tools, system logs, telemetry, I/O monitoring, and test equipment; identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Working with internal engineering teams, suppliers, and external partners to plan and deliver integration, commissioning, test, and acceptance activities.
  • Participating in harbour and sea trials, including system commissioning, operational testing, performance assessment, real-time diagnostics, and resolution of faults encountered during trials.
  • Supporting test reporting, issue tracking, and the continuous improvement of vessel-system reliability, maintainability, and operational readiness.

 

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Degree level qualification in Mechatronics, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience 
  • 5+ years experience in a relevant field
  • Experience designing and configuring closed loop control systems
  • PLC programming and configuration experience
  • Experience with CAN bus 
  • Familiarity with the Linux command line 

 

Desirable:  

  • Experience with industry standard communication protocols, such as CANOpen, NMEA2000, NMEA0183 
  • An understanding of electronics principles
  • Embedded systems programming in C/C++ 
  • Experience with mobile robotics projects

This includes, at a minimum, having the legal right to work in the United States and the ability to successfully complete applicable background checks.

For certain roles, candidates may also be required to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance. In the majority of cases, eligibility for clearance will require US citizenship and will be subject to applicable federal laws and regulations.
