Job Summary

The Recycling Coordinator supports the development and implementation of recycling and waste reduction programs for municipalities, businesses, schools, and community organizations.

This role plays an important part in advancing environmental sustainability by educating the public, conducting waste assessments, and ensuring compliance with California recycling legislation such as SB 1383, AB 341, and AB 1826.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional, responsive customer service to residents, businesses, and community partners.

  • Conduct site visits, recycling audits, and waste assessments for residential, commercial, and multi-family properties.

  • Deliver presentations, workshops, and outreach events to educate the public on recycling and waste reduction.

  • Support and administer recycling programs for schools, municipalities, businesses, and multi-family communities.

  • Assist customers with troubleshooting recycling services and resolve issues efficiently.

  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and program documentation.

  • Collaborate with city staff, internal departments, and community stakeholders to support recycling initiatives.

  • Stay current on California recycling regulations (SB 1383, AB 341, AB 1826) and assist customers with compliance.

  • Drive a company vehicle to conduct site visits, outreach events, and program audits.

Reports to: Recycling Programs Manager

Minimum Qualifications

Education

High school diploma or GED required.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in the waste, recycling, environmental, or sustainability field.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Familiarity with California recycling legislation (AB 341, SB 1383, AB 1826).

  • Strong customer service and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication.

  • Ability to conduct public presentations and community outreach.

  • Experience with data tracking, reporting, and record keeping.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Google Workspace, and Adobe.

  • Ability to work with municipal partners, schools, and community organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with community outreach or environmental education.

  • Sales or program promotion experience.

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred.

Work Environment

This position involves a combination of office work, field visits, and community engagement activities.

The role requires frequent walking, standing, and site visits in outdoor and operational environments including exposure to dust, noise, weather conditions, and waste processing environments.

Travel within the service area is required.
