8381 Sterile Processing

To be proficient in all areas of the Sterile Processing department, including: Decontamination, Processing of instruments and Supply Management. This position will also act as a resource for the Sterile Processing Coordinator and Sterile Processing Manager. Demonstrates ability to perform duties of Lead Tech on all shifts.

QUALIFICATIONS

License /Certification
Required: Sterile processing/central services certification from IAHCSMM or CBSPD



Education
Preferred: Two years of college or equivalent


 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


Essential

Performs all duties and expectations of a Non-Certified and Certified SP Tech.

Acts a resource for Sterile Processing Coordinator and Sterile Processing Manager.

Demonstrates ability to perform duties of Lead Tech on all shifts.

Coordinates the work flow of the department on assigned shift. Provides coordination of information between shifts (such as verbal, email, writing, communication books, boards, etc.).

Organizes and prioritizes tasks and work time of staff efficiently. Responds to variations in work loads. Reallocates staffing, utilizes per diem staff or docks staff appropriately. Recommends changes in staff schedules, as needed.

Provides direction of all staff in all areas of Sterile processing (Decontamination, Processing and Supply Management).

Assists Manager with input on the annual evaluations, disciplines/counseling, improvement plans, and orientation.

Provides ongoing education and training for department staff. Assigns preceptors, mentors appropriately. Tracks progression of orientation and readjusts assignments as necessary.

Reports essential information to Manager on a timely basis. Utilizes Surgery management for appropriate communication to Surgery staff.

Identifies educational needs of all staff and coordinates with Manager and Educator. Tracks attendance and makeup sessions for all education and in-service education needs.

Maintains all department records. Routinely monitors all records for accuracy and completion.

Works effectively with peers, department staff, and other department staff.

Maintains adequate supply and special order items for processing and supply needs. Demonstrates ability to respond to changes in supply needs or forecasting of needs (change in par levels, ordering methods).



Additional

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Pay Range

$23.37 -$35.05
