Job Description:

Position Overview
The Department of History is seeking friendly, responsible, and service-oriented undergraduate students to join our office staff as Student Social Media Assistant. Student Social Media Assistant reports to the Office Manager and Administrative Associate, and they provide essential administrative support to department staff and faculty. In this role, students will primarily plan and develop our social media.

Required Qualifications
- Must be an undergraduate student enrolled at Baylor University
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Friendly, professional demeanor and a commitment to customer service

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, or similar
- Interest in content creation, photography, or video editing
- Passion for history or the humanities strongly encouraged

Job Responsibilities
- Assist with managing and contributing to the department’s social media accounts
- Create, edit, and schedule social media content (posts, stories, reels, etc.) in collaboration with departmental staff
- Appear in or help coordinate short-form video content as needed
- Attend department events to capture photos or videos for promotional use
- Assist with drafting captions and ensuring content aligns with department and university branding guidelines
- Monitor social media engagement and share relevant insights with the Office Manager
- Staff a reception desk, greet faculty, students, and visitors, and provide basic front-office support as needed
- Answer the reception desk phone and appropriately direct calls
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Office Manager and/or Administrative Associate

- Maintain regular, punctual attendance
- Comply with all university policies and procedures
- Maintain confidentiality of departmental information and records
- Demonstrate creativity, initiative, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Perform other duties as needed to support Baylor University’s mission

Learning Outcomes
Student Social Media Assistants will gain hands-on experience in social media management within an academic setting. Students will develop skills in content creation, digital communication, marketing strategy, and professionalism, while also gaining insight into administrative operations and public-facing communications in higher education.
