Job Description:
JOB DESCRIPTION-- Assist Urban REAP Program Coordinator with managing our Compost Program, our Gardens, and our Garden Center. MUST BE ELIGIBLE for FEDERAL WORK-STUDY. This is off-campus employment, so reliable transportation is important.
FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION--
β Garden Center
β Assist with maintaining the inventory & display of the items in our Garden Center
β Greet and assist visitors with their questions and requests during open hours
β Compost
β Manage our Compost Club, including managing our community of subscribers and processing buckets
β Strategize and spearhead outreach to recruit more members for our Compost Bucket Subscription Program
β Maintain our 3-bin compost system for educational purposes
β Gardens
β Plan, plant, and maintain our Demo Gardens onsite for education and production
β Cultivate new plants from seed & propagations for Demo Gardens & Garden Center
β Other
β Collaborate with the Education Team to ensure that signage around compost and gardens is accurate and engaging
β Take photos to add to our photo library
β Create social media posts that educate & advertise Urban REAP to general public
β Assist with volunteer management by leading volunteers in compost- & garden-related tasks
β Assisting with other tasks and projects as needed for Urban REAP operations
REQUIRED HARD SKILLS--
β Preferred - background in Environmental Studies, Ecology, Biology, Horticulture, Sustainable Agriculture, or similar
β Preferred - bilingual Spanish
LEARNING OUTCOMES --
β Technical skills, such as composting, plant science and gardening, integrated pest management, organic practices, and soil science
β Educational programming, including developing and implementing curriculum and planning and executing community events
β Computer systems management, such as Drive, Square, Outlook, and online databases
β Interpersonal skills and communication skills with a variety of individuals and settings (e.g. store front, education, tours)
β Project management, punctuality, responsibility, and professionalism
Hourly Rate: $11-$12.50/hour (depending on new or returning student worker status and/or any recognized special skill level)
