Facilities Manager

Reports To: Operations Manager
Position: Part-Time, with opportunity to grow into Full-Time

Position Overview

The Facilities Manager is responsible for ensuring Freshwater Church’s campus is safe, clean, functional, welcoming, and ready to support ministry throughout the week. This is a hands-on role overseeing the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the facility, grounds, building systems, event setups, and coordination with service vendors.

The Facilities Manager will take ownership of the physical campus by identifying needs before they become problems, coordinating repairs and preventative maintenance, preparing the building for services and events, and helping ensure our facility reflects the excellence and hospitality we want people to experience at Freshwater.

This position will begin as a part-time role with the opportunity to grow into a full-time position as the needs of the church and campus continue to grow.

Key Responsibilities

Facility Operations & Maintenance

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation and general maintenance of the church campus.
  • Perform routine inspections of the building, equipment, and grounds.
  • Complete basic repairs and maintenance and coordinate outside contractors when specialized work is required.
  • Develop and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for building systems and equipment.
  • Monitor HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, doors, locks, and other facility systems.
  • Coordinate with the Operations Manager regarding scheduling and facility access for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, cleaning, waste, pest control, landscaping, snow removal, and other service providers.
  • Identify facility issues proactively and ensure repairs are completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of facility tools, equipment, supplies, and replacement items.
  • Respond to urgent facility issues when necessary.
  • Maintain service records, warranties, and preventative maintenance documentation.

Grounds & Exterior

  • Oversee the appearance and upkeep of the church property and grounds.
  • Perform or coordinate mowing, landscaping, snow removal, ice management, and seasonal property maintenance.
  • Monitor parking lots, sidewalks, exterior lighting, signage, drainage, and other exterior areas.
  • Ensure entrances and walkways remain safe, clean, and welcoming.

Sunday, Event & Room Setup

  • Opening the campus on Sunday mornings ensuring ministry spaces, common areas, and exterior areas are ready for Sunday services and major events.
  • Set up and take down tables, chairs, furniture, and other equipment for church services, meetings, ministry activities, weddings, funerals, and special events.
  • Coordinate room configurations and facility needs with ministry leaders and staff.
  • Assist with moving furniture, equipment, supplies, and other items throughout the campus.
  • Restore rooms and event spaces following use and prepare them for their next scheduled activity.
  • Assist staff and ministry teams with facility-related needs before, during, and after events.

Safety & Stewardship

  • Help maintain a safe environment for staff, volunteers, children, and guests.
  • Monitor fire extinguishers, emergency equipment, exits, and other life-safety systems in coordination with appropriate vendors.
  • Identify potential safety hazards and address them promptly.
  • Help develop and maintain facility procedures and checklists.
  • Steward church property, equipment, utilities, and financial resources responsibly.
  • Look for practical opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce unnecessary expenses, and extend the life of facility assets.

General & Ad Hoc Responsibilities

  • Assist with facility projects and campus improvements as needed.
  • Support staff and ministry teams with physical and logistical needs throughout the campus.
  • Help receive, move, assemble, install, or organize furniture, equipment, deliveries, and supplies.
  • Respond to unexpected facility needs and help troubleshoot problems as they arise.
  • Perform other duties and ad hoc responsibilities as assigned to support the needs of the church, its ministries, and the campus.

Qualifications

  • Experience in facilities, maintenance, construction, property management, or a related field preferred.
  • General working knowledge of building maintenance and basic mechanical systems.
  • Comfortable performing basic repairs and knowing when to bring in a qualified professional.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Self-motivated and able to identify and solve problems without constant direction.
  • Dependable and willing to work a schedule that occasionally includes evenings, weekends, Sundays, or urgent facility needs.
  • Ability to safely perform physical tasks including lifting and moving tables, chairs, furniture, equipment, and supplies; climbing ladders; and working indoors and outdoors.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who takes ownership. This person notices when something isn't right and takes initiative to make it better. They don't simply wait for a work order; they care about the campus and take pride in keeping it functioning well.

The right person will be dependable, practical, organized, hardworking, and willing to jump in wherever needed. They should enjoy working with their hands while also being capable of working with vendor contacts, planning ahead, and keeping facility operations organized.

Most importantly, this person understands that facilities are ultimately about ministry and people. A clean, safe, well-maintained, and well-prepared campus removes distractions and creates an environment where people can gather, worship, learn, and experience the mission of Freshwater Church.

Position Structure

This position will begin as a part-time Facilities Manager role, with hours and compensation based on campus and ministry needs. As Freshwater's facility operations and ministry needs continue to grow, there is an opportunity for this position to develop into a full-time role with expanded facilities and campus responsibilities.
