Tool & Die Technician : (Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:00pm)

Position Summary

Tool & Die Technicians are responsible for fabricating, repairing, and maintaining precision molds, tooling, and mold inserts used in injection molding operations. They interpret blueprints and specifications, set up and operate a variety of machine tools, and ensure all components meet precise dimensional and quality standards. By inspecting, assembling, testing, and modifying tooling as needed, they help maximize mold performance, minimize downtime, and support safe, efficient production while maintaining the high quality standards required for plastic injection molded products.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.
  • Develops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of product.
  • Computes dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operations.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for machining.
  • Designs jigs and templates as work aids in the fabrication of parts.
  • Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machine, shaper, and grinder, to machine parts, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.
  • Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances.
  • Examines standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of part.
  • Completes filling, grinding, and shimming of metals to ensure a smooth finish.
  • Fits and assembles tools and die parts.
  • Inspects finished dies and tools for defects, smoothness, and contour deformities.
  • Conducts test runs with completed tools and dies.

 

 

Education and Experience 

  • High school diploma/GED
  • One to two years of related experience and/or training; preferred
  • Computer proficiency (Word & Excel); required
  • Ability to read, understand and use calipers and other test and measuring equipment; required
  • 2 years, or more production experience; preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to speak effectively to employees of organization
  • Ability to do two mathematical operations to arrive at the solution
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
