Overall Purpose of the Position:	A Sleep Assistant/Trainee develops competency in and performs the basics of polysomnographic testing and associated interventions under direct supervision of a Sleep Technologist.

Major Job Responsibilities:	Percentage:
1. Gather and Analyze Patient Information Verify the medical order and protocol. Complete and verify documentation. Explain the procedure and orient the patient to the sleep center. Testing Preparation Procedures Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning. Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards. Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals. Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting. Polysomnographic Procedures Follow procedural protocols for polysomnographic procedures. Follow “lights out” procedures to establish and document baseline values. Perform polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free. Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results. Follow “lights on” procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process.	70%
2. Home Sleep Apnea Testing (HSAT) Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and adjust, if necessary. Provide with instructions on the set up and use of equipment. Download exam data and transmit for review and reporting.	10%
3. Scheduling and Other Duties Schedule and assist with communications with sleep patients. Miscellaneous task for the sleep lab department.	5%
4. Service Management and Professional Issues Comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues. Participate in equipment care and maintenance. Maintain current CPR or BCLS certification. Demonstrate effective written and spoken communication skills. Demonstrate appropriate social skills and the ability to follow direction.	5%
5. All other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.	5%
6. Demonstrates quality work, completes assignments on a timely basis, and makes decisions within limits of authority. Takes initiative in problem solving, maintains confidentiality of patient and company information, and interacts with patients, co-workers, and management in a courteous and respectful manner.	2.5%

Minimum Qualifications:
Desired Skills & Knowledge:	Basic knowledge of sleep medicine, human anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology and medical terminology. High school diploma or GED plus 6 months of direct patient care experience or 1 year of postsecondary education or current enrollment in an accredited educational program leading to an associate degree with an emphasis in polysomnography.
Licensure & Certification	Preferred: A-Step training, EEG and/or EKG Certifications
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:	Employees must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily. Hourly Rate:	Starting @ $24.68; based on experience
