The AgronomyĀ TechnicianĀ willĀ be responsible forĀ supporting the agronomy efforts of the Hawaii Research Center withĀ primaryĀ focus on agronomic activities necessary to reliably produce high quality seed for the research organization.Ā
TheĀ agronomy technicianĀ will be performing tasks in the Agronomy Department,Ā including but not limited to,Ā working with crop protection, land planningĀ and preparation,Ā Integrated Pest Management (IPM), regulatory and equipment operation.Ā
This position isĀ locatedĀ on the āGarden Islandā,Ā Kauai.Ā

What You'll Do:
AssistĀ in scheduling,Ā coordinationĀ andĀ operation ofĀ farm andĀ spraying equipmentĀ (such asĀ SprayersĀ and Tractors). Always ensure the proper use of PPE (personal protective equipment) and ensureĀ productĀ label directions are followed.āÆĀ
AssistĀ with data entry in the Agronomy DatabasesĀ
AssistĀ with printing and posting WPSĀ records.Ā
AssistĀ with IPM chemical inventoryĀ management and tracking.Ā
AssistĀ withĀ spraying,Ā chemigation,Ā posting signs, cleaning equipment, replacing nozzles, etc.Ā
Maintain all equipment in proper and safe workingĀ condition.Ā
MakeĀ certain chemicalsĀ are appliedĀ in accordance with chemical labels.Ā
Maintain chemical inventory,Ā an orderly pesticide storageĀ roomĀ and safety stations.Ā Ā
AssistĀ with the deployment of new equipment for IPMĀ and agronomy.Ā
Spraying fence lines and fallow areas.Ā
Crop scoutingĀ
Provide input toĀ supervisorĀ andĀ assistĀ withĀ shortĀ and long termĀ planning.Ā Ā
Participate and complete personal development activities as part of a performance management and development plan.Ā
AssistĀ with developing protocols.Ā
AssistĀ other groups withĀ tasksĀ including but not limited to; cover crop planting, mowing, crop destruction and volunteering, drip tape removal, hand weeding, UTV/backpack spray,Ā netting activities, and pollination during busy season.Ā
Track and enter data in databases for regulatory activities.Ā
MiscellaneousĀ tasks asĀ assigned by supervisor.Ā

What Skills You Need:
High School DiplomaĀ or GED required (or willing and able to obtainĀ GED within 12 monthsĀ fromĀ hiring).
2 to 4 years of tropical agriculture experience in IPM spray and farm equipment operation preferred.Ā Ā
Proficient in the use of computers with the ability toĀ utilizeĀ Microsoft office products.Ā
Excellent oral and written communication skills.Ā
Ability to read/interpret instructions and carry out tasks inĀ absenceĀ of supervision.Ā
Work well under pressure to meet deadlines.Ā
Tolerance and ability to work inĀ outdoorĀ tropical agriculture setting.Ā
Ability to communicate in English and work with others in a team setting and diverse cultural backgrounds and languages.Ā
Valid driverās license required and CDL preferred orĀ willingĀ toĀ obtain.Ā
AbilityĀ to towĀ trailersĀ (CMV).Ā
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays during seasonal peaks and/or based on field needs.Ā
Occasionally required to lift at least 20 to 40 lbs.Ā
Experience with operating and assisting in drone operation is preferred.

This reflects a reasonable estimate of the targeted base salary for this role. This role is also eligible for an annual bonus. Based on factors such as geographic location and candidate qualifications, actual base pay is determined when an employment offer is made.
