About the Role:

The Vet Technician/Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting veterinarians in the care and treatment of animals. This position involves assisting with medical procedures, monitoring patient health, and providing compassionate care to animals in a clinical setting. The role requires effective communication with pet owners to explain treatments and provide guidance on animal care. The Vet Technician/Assistant ensures that the veterinary facility operates smoothly by maintaining equipment, managing records, and supporting daily clinical operations. Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a veterinary technician training program accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) or equivalent.
  • Certification or licensure as a Veterinary Technician or Assistant as required by state regulations.
  • Basic knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, and common medical procedures.
  • Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a veterinary clinic or animal care environment.
  • Advanced certifications such as Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), or Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT). No Certifications necessary for vet assistants.
  • Training in anesthesia monitoring, or laboratory procedures.
  • Strong customer service skills and experience in client communication.
  • Familiarity with veterinary practice management software.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and medical procedures by preparing animals and equipment.
  • Monitor and record vital signs and behavior of animals before, during, and after treatment.
  • Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Provide basic nursing care, including feeding, bathing, and exercising animals.
  • Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding animal care instructions, treatment plans, and follow-up procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the clinic, including sterilizing instruments and managing waste.
  • Manage inventory of medical supplies and ensure proper storage of medications.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records and assist with appointment scheduling.

Skills:

The required skills enable the Vet Technician/Assistant to perform clinical tasks such as preparing animals for procedures, administering treatments, and monitoring patient health with precision and care.
