Location Description

Michael Foods, Inc. located in Wakefield, Nebraska is known as the Baseball Capital of Nebraska. Milton G. Waldbaum and Dan Gardner founded our egg-processing business in 1950 here in Wakefield. Our location raises chickens and produces tankers of liquid egg to be consumed by our processing facilities.


Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY: 

Responsible for working with all aspects of our layers houses to include providing an excellent environment and quality care for our laying hens. 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:   

  • Responsible for making sure the chickens have the proper amount of water, feed, proper temperature, clean house, etc.
  • Responsible for keeping daily UEP records on water, feed, mortality, ventilation, and maintenance.
  • Must work closely with coworkers, leads, supervisors, and maintenance.
  • Responsible for moving birds in and out of houses and keeping accurate population.
  • Responsible for keeping all feed chains and egg belts in working order.
  • Responsible for keeping all lights replaced and in working order.
  • Responsible for keeping floor litter dry and maintained to 1 inch.
  • Responsible for turning houses over when a flock is leaving and coming in.
  • Keeping all stairs and aisles clean and clear of trip hazards.
  • To keep all fans, motors, and screens clean and protected with shields or guards.
  • Responsible for doing a daily mortality run in your house and the extra house during the weekdays and doing bird runs in up to two houses on the weekends.
  • All maintenance and repair work are to be done immediately, if problems arise, contact your lead person or supervisor.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all Animal Humane policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

No prior experience or training.

 

Experience:

Previous experience with animal care is preferred.

 

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

 

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add and subtract numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.

Other skills and abilities: 

  • Free of any breathing of asthmatic conditions, as dusty conditions prevail
  • Ability to work on ladders and climb steps as needed
  • Ability to perform basic maintenance tasks
  • Ability to stand most of shift and walk the long buildings numerous times per day
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
