We are seeking a skilled Assistant Manager to help lead our restaurant team.


Position Overview

The Assistant Manager supports daily operations in the dining room, leading staff and ensuring every guest receives an outstanding experience. This role partners with the General Manager to uphold operational standards, team performance, and Virginia Diner's service culture.

The Assistant Manager will also be responsible for all aspects of the kitchen as directed by the General Manager and Kitchen Manager. This includes receiving and storing food, maintaining consistency and appearance of food, and training the back-of-house team. You will also be responsible for maintaining clean equipment and facilities in the back of the house. Depending on your strengths, you may be assigned an additional area of focus such as scheduling, retail shop coordination, or event bookings.


Duties/ Responsibilities:

· Manage kitchen and/or front-of-house staff and coordinate food orders

· Supervise food prep and cooking

· Assist on the line and in food prep

· Check food plating and temperature

· Train kitchen staff on prep work and food plating techniques

· Store food products in compliance with safety practices (e.g. in refrigerators)

· Lead house team members in providing a top-notch guest experience

· Assist with table seating, registering, and phone calls as needed

· Lead an area of focus to be assigned (scheduling, retail shop, event bookings, etc.).

· Engage team members and guests with energy and excitement

· Restaurant opening/ closing managerial duties based on the daily schedule

• Perform opening and closing procedures 

• Oversee cash handling and POS operations 

• Support staffing, scheduling, and floor management 

• Ensure compliance with safety, sanitation, and food-handling standards

• Assist with inventory and supply ordering 

• Uphold company policies, procedures, and performance expectations 

• Support management with reporting and operational tasks as needed


Qualifications 

• Previous restaurant supervisory or management experience

• Strong communication and customer service skills 

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and remain calm under pressure 

• Availability on evenings, weekends, and holidays 

• Demonstrated leadership and team management skills

• Lead team during assigned shifts

Schedule Expectations

Virginia Diner is a 7-day-a-week operation

Position requires a mix of day shifts, evening shifts, and weekend shifts

Evening shifts end by 9 PM — no late nights

This role requires 45-55 hours per week on average
