Survey Crew Chief

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) is seeking an experienced Survey Crew Chief to lead field survey operations at our headquarters in Wall Township, NJ. This is an excellent opportunity for a surveying professional to oversee field crews, perform a variety of land and construction surveys, and contribute to land development and infrastructure projects throughout New Jersey.

The successful candidate will have extensive survey field experience, including experience leading a crew, making sound field decisions, and delivering accurate work within established schedules and budgets. The individual will be comfortable working independently or as part of a two-person crew and operating Leica and Trimble robotic and GPS survey equipment.
Surveying & Field Operations
FPA’s survey professionals support land development, municipal infrastructure, and construction projects throughout New Jersey by performing construction layout and staking, utility location, field data collection, and related surveying services.
The Survey Crew Chief will coordinate daily field activities, supervise crew members, collect and process survey data, perform field calculations, and maintain accurate notes and sketches. This individual will also help ensure consistent compliance with FPA’s quality control, equipment care, operating, and safety standards.
Responsibilities
• Coordinate survey work for grading, drainage, utilities, and layout of various site items.
• Perform daily uploading and downloading of data collectors.
• Ensure daily care and charging of instrumentation.
• Work effectively in a one or two-person crew.
• Perform various surveying tasks including collecting data, recording field notes, and operating survey equipment.
• Perform construction staking and associated field calculations, including grade staking, structure staking, and house/building stakeout.
• Perform drainage, sanitary, and curb stakeout.
• Perform quality control and quality assurance procedures on collected data.
• Perform routine survey related calculations using coordinate geometry software to solve for angles and distances for property corners and other field points.
• Operate Leica and Trimble survey equipment, including Robotic Total Stations, GPS receivers, and survey controllers.
• Accurately record survey field notes and sketches in the field book.
• Supervise the survey field crew, including assigning work, meeting completion dates and budgets, and ensuring consistent application of firm operating standards and safety practices.
• Take ownership of work outcomes and results.
Qualifications
• 8+ years of experience in survey field operations.
• 5+ years of experience as a Party Chief leading a crew.
• Experience with survey controllers and Leica and Trimble Robotic and GPS equipment.
• Valid driver's license and ability to pass a driving record check.
• Strong dependability and reliability.
• Ability to work outdoors and on construction sites in all weather conditions.
• Ability to work overtime as required.
• CAD experience is a plus and will be considered.

Benefit packages for this role will start on the 1st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement plans. Employees in this role are also entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
Compensation
The projected compensation range for this position is $75,000 to $100,000. Actual compensation will depend on factors including experience, education, qualifications, and skill set. FPA recognizes and rewards performance through an annual bonus program.
