Job DetailsLevel: EntryJob Location: Key Technology WA - Walla Walla, WA 99362Position Type: Full TimeEducation Level: 2 Year DegreeSalary Range: $19.80 - $29.80 HourlyTravel Percentage: 0%Job Shift: DayJob Category: Skilled Labor - Trades POSITION SUMMARY: Welders use engineering drawings to build parts/equipment to the specifications on the drawings.  This includes lay out, tack up, welding (GMAW and GTAW processes) and straightening as required to meet dimensional and quality specifications on material thickness of 20ga to 3/4" thick material.  Welders will utilize additional tools such as clamps, pneumatic and electrical grinders, oxy-acetylene torches, etc. as needed.   ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Level 1: At all times safety is a top priority while performing any part of your job. Read drawings and use fixtures, templates, stops, and guides as indicated to build equipment as required by blueprint.  Follow verbal and written instructions given by Production Supervisor Measure component dimensions to determine accuracy of welding operation Operate basic equipment with little supervision, i.e. pneumatic and electrical grinders, acetylene torches, and plasma torches, etc. Lay out, tack up and weld simple equipment and components. Assist other welders working on more complex equipment and components. Demonstrate improving consistency in weld quality. Demonstrate improving efficiency in meeting productivity expectations, as defined by actual labor hours compared against labor standards. Identify and repair weld defects in accordance to quality standards   Level 2: In addition to the above duties. Make welds acceptable to welds acceptable to standards for welding on arm brackets Recognize and apply weld symbols Demonstrated ability to meet productivity expectations, as defined by actual hours compared against labor standards Demonstrated skills in using the stud gun process   Level 3: In addition to the above duties. Advanced blue print reading skill as demonstrated by acceptable completion of complex equipment Demonstrated ability to support screen welding Demonstrated ability to weld all vibratory and/or optical equipment   Level 4: In addition to the above duties. Works on complex assignments requiring independent action and initiative to resolve issues Demonstrated ability to weld all items in a particular area and is cross trained in at least one area   Level 5: In addition to the above duties. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Level 1: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and beginning computer skills. Formal classes from college, trade school or military service helpful. 1.5 to 2.5 years of industrial welding experience and skill as evidenced by weld demonstration testing. Level 3: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and beginning computer skills. Formal classes from college, trade school or military service helpful. 2.5 to 3.5 years of industrial welding experience and skill as evidenced by weld demonstration testing. Level 4: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and beginning computer skills. Formal classes from college, trade school or military service helpful. 4.5 to 5.5 years of industrial welding experience and skill as evidenced by weld demonstration testing. Level 5: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and beginning computer skills. Formal classes from college, trade school or military service helpful. 6.5 to 7.5 years of industrial welding experience and skill as evidenced by weld demonstration testing. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blue prints and procedure manuals. Ability to write short routine correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with other employees of the organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, blue print or diagram form. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.   COMMENTS All employees are required to wear eye and hearing protection at all times while in the manufacturing area. At all times use guards on grinders and a face shield while doing any type of grinding. Protective clothing provided by the company is to be worn at all times such as coveralls or shop jackets unless approved by management. Gloves must be worn at all times while welding. What you will need to be successful High school education, community college weld program, technical weld school, or equivalent experience. Three years’ experience in welding fabrication. Basic GMAW and GTAW abilities. Knowledge of gas torch and plasma equipment, overhead crane operations, pneumatic hand tools such grinders. Able to use fixtures, templates, stops and/or guides. Welders at Key have experience in MIG, TIG, and TIP/TIG welding. We would be impressed if you had: Skills in all forms of GMAW welding. Your competence in reading and fully understanding manufacturing drawings. The ability to work with minimum supervision.  Your ability to contribute to the team’s performance. Your confidence with measurements, tolerances, and both imperial measurement and metric system. Position is contingent on success completion of weld written and practical tests. Why Work at Key?
