Job Summary:Â
The Medical Personal Collector is responsible for assisting patients with outstanding account balances. This role involves obtaining patient payments and responding to patient inquiries through the Billing Call Center via phone, voicemail, and email. The position requires timely follow‑up communication with patients, as well as collaboration with co‑workers and supervisors. This is a high‑call‑volume role in a fast‑paced environment.
Location & Schedule
- This is an on-site position in Wallingford, CT.
- Monday- Friday 9am-5pm
Essential Responsibilities:Â
- Monitor billing phone line calls, voicemails, and emails through Mitel phone systemÂ
- Process patient payments
- Work miscellaneous patient correspondence from the mailÂ
- Reply and follow-up on patient inquiries from outer offices (phone calls, emails, or faxes)Â
- Follow-up on requests given by managerÂ
- Work patient balance reports as given by managerÂ
- Identify accounts to be sent to collections and process according to CO’s collection processÂ
- Reply and follow-up on collection agency inquiries (phone calls, emails, or faxes)Â
- Update patient demographics and registration information as requested
- Obtain liability and school related insurance for billing
- Other duties as assignedÂ
Education & Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED requiredÂ
- Associate of Art degree or higher preferredÂ
- 3+ years of experience with medical personal collectionsÂ
- Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes preferred
- Knowledge of processing credit cards through a payment system preferred
- Experience with Epic preferred

- Strong knowledge of collecting on patient medical balancesÂ
- Strong ability to communicate well with patients and co-workersÂ
- Demonstrate initiative and ability to multi-task while working independentlyÂ
- Strong organizational skills and system aptitudeÂ
- Solid computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft OfficeÂ
- Ability to stay calm and focused when the caller is upset and/or angry about their billÂ
- Ability to problem solve and explain confidently to the patient why they have a balanceÂ
