Position Summary

 

The EHS Manager manages the Walpole MA facility’s environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure regulatory compliance and a safe work environment. This includes developing and implementing safety policies, conducting risk assessments, investigating incidents, providing employee training, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. A successful EHS Manager will lead Environmental, Health, and Safety aspects to create and sustain a LEAN, Safety-driven culture for the organization. The EHS Manager will manage safety culture through leadership alignment, employee engagement, continuous improvement, and the achievement of set KPIs to reduce risk and create a team-owned, safe working environment.

 

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Provide facility leadership and support in the areas of safety, health, and environmental compliance, including but not limited to permitting, workers' compensation, incident investigation, including root cause analysis, and inspections.
  • Develop and coordinate training on general safety procedures and programs including but not limited to: emergency response, LOTO, fall protection, respirator safety, confined space, PPE, PIVs, Hoist and Cranes, hazard communication, machine guarding and electrical safetyAnalyze, teach, and influence safety improvements and behaviors.
  • Own and manage EHS-related tasks and projects, including consultants.
  • Develop and serve as a mentor to the EHS champions at all levels in the facility.
  • Coordinate with facility and maintenance leadership for the development and execution of safety action plans and projects.
  • Coordinate and perform Job Hazard Assessments / Job Safety Analysis / Hazard Mapping.
  • Manage the development and execution of training and communication materials for teams.
  • Manage and teach environmental, health & safety best management practices for the facility.
  • Provide routine expert analysis to the facility regarding safety and health statistics and trends, and manage the timely execution of EHS KPI’s.
  • Participate in and provide leadership to the incident investigation process, including the coordination of corrective actions and participation in escalated injury/incident calls.
  • Research, recommend, and assist in the development and implementation of engineered safety solutions to prevent future incidents/injuries. 
  • Manage facility environmental permitting, air compliance, incident investigation, including root cause analysis, spill prevention plans, pollution prevention, hazardous waste, auditing, and environmental training to identify, assess, and reduce environmental risks and financial costs.
  • Manage compliance and keep up to date with environmental legislation and best practices. 
  • Raise awareness, at all levels of our organization, of the impact of emerging safety and environmental issues, whether legislative or best practice, corporate, ethical, and social responsibility.
  • Rigging and Crane Safety Oversight: Develop, implement, and enforce safety protocols for all lifting operations involving overhead cranes, hoists, slings, and rigging gear. This includes managing inspection programs for all lifting equipment and ensuring compliance with OSHA rigging and crane standards.
  • Air Quality and Ventilation: Manage programs for air monitoring and ventilation systems (local exhaust ventilation) to control airborne contaminants, particularly respirable Hexavalent chromium, metal dust, fumes, and other process emissions, ensuring adherence to OSHA Permissible Exposure Limits (PELs).
  • Training and Education: Develop and deliver training programs on general safety procedures, emergency response, and foundry-specific topics like heat stress prevention, noise control, and certified rigging and crane operator safety.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all operations comply with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations, including those set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Qualifications, Skills and Educational Requirements

 

  • Preferred Four (4) year degree in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental discipline or equivalent field of study is required; Master’s degree is a plus
  • 3+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environmental, health, and safety setting
  • Professional certifications, such as CIH, CSP, ASP, CHMM, and/or PE, are strongly preferred
  • Comprehension of industry, local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety requirements/regulatory agencies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required
  • Must possess a high level of verbal and written communication skills along with interpersonal skills.
  • Must possess the ability to train on EHS-related topics.
  • Ability to lead and support cross-functional management of safety initiatives
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment
  • Must possess strong organizational and time management skills
  • Results-oriented with willingness to take responsibility and initiative
  • Demonstrated people-centric leadership and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Machining and Assembly: In-depth understanding of metal manufacturing control methods.
  • Rigging and Crane Knowledge: Demonstrated expertise in the principles of rigging, load securement, crane operation safety protocols, and the relevant OSHA standards for cranes and rigging gear. Possession of MA Hoisting Engineers license preferred.
