This role is at the center end of ATP's scaling plans: you will manage the critical process for detailed designs of our manufacturing facilities. Your task will be to design and execute experiments, complete engineering designs, and manage projects that de-risk scale up. This position is highly independent, hands-on, and involves hands-on pilot plant engineering work, simulation and design work, interfacing with external vendors and contractors, and managing our supply chain.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design and execute critical pilot plant experiments generating reliable, actionable data for reaction and unit-operation design and scale-up.
• Review and produce material and energy balances, block flow diagrams, P&ID drawing sets, for internal cost modeling and external equipment vendors
Interface with the mechanical engineering team to manage hardware design requirements for our pilot plant operations
• Manage aspects of large-scale equipment procurement, raw material procurement, combining external negotiation with a knowledge of the technical and economic requirements
• Lead HAZOP analyses with our process design and automation team to define safety SOPs and controls narratives

B.S., M.S., or PhD in Chemical Engineer, Process Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a similar field
5+ years of professional experience in chemical engineering from pilot to production scale
High proficiency with chemical engineering practices: reaction engineering, simulation, material and energy balances, drafting and reviewing P&IDs, experience with chemical plant procurement and construction
Basic analytical chemistry experience (NMR, HPLC, GC-MS, FTIR)
Strong problem-solving skill
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with continuous-flow manufacturing
• Prior experience developing with nitration chemistries, including hazardous or toxic material handling
Prior experience with hazardous operations and safety reviews
