Position Summary

The Medical Assistant supports providers and clinical staff in delivering high-quality patient care within the clinic. This position is responsible for preparing patients for examinations, assisting with procedures, maintaining accurate patient records, and supporting daily clinical operations.

The Medical Assistant also communicates with patients regarding clinical questions, lab results, prescription refills, and other healthcare concerns while helping ensure a professional and compassionate patient experience.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Obtain and update patient information, ensuring records, forms, and consent documents are complete and accurate.
  • Prepare patients for examinations by obtaining vital signs and documenting relevant medical history.
  • Return patient phone calls and respond to electronic messages regarding clinical questions, lab results, prescription refills, and other patient concerns, consulting with providers when appropriate.
  • Prepare examination rooms and equipment before patient visits.
  • Assist physicians and other providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  • Administer injections and medications and perform routine specimen collection and testing as directed.
  • Clean and prepare examination rooms, beds, and instruments between patient visits.
  • Keep examination rooms stocked with necessary medical supplies and equipment.
  • Support daily clinic operations by organizing supplies, managing laundry, and assisting other providers and staff as needed.
  • Maintain accurate documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients and healthcare staff.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, clinical procedures, and patient care practices.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and follow applicable healthcare privacy requirements.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain accurate medical documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with electronic medical record systems.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant certification program preferred.
  • Previous experience in a clinical or medical office setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of patient care procedures, examination protocols, and administrative processes in a healthcare environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the clinical environment.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and assisting with patient positioning during examinations or procedures.
  • Ability to lift or move medical supplies or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequent use of computers, telephones, and medical equipment.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks, including documentation, instrument preparation, and patient intake procedures.
