Objectives of this Role:
The role of an Environmental Specialist in behavioral health and developmental disability settings is crucial for maintaining a safe, clean and therapeutic environment that supports the well-being of clients and staff. This position involves a combination of housekeeping responsibilities and environmental management to ensure compliance with health and safety standards, promote hygiene, and foster a positive atmosphere conducive to recovery and development.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform routine cleaning and sanitation of client areas, common spaces, offices, and treatment rooms to prevent the spread of infections and maintain hygiene standards. Ensure that all cleaning supplies and equipment are used safely and stored properly, adhering to safety protocols. Monitor and maintain the cleanliness of furniture, fixtures, and flooring, including carpets, tiles, and other surfaces. Assist in waste management, including the proper disposal of medical and hazardous waste in accordance with regulatory guidelines. Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to appropriate personnel for prompt resolution. Support environmental safety protocols, including infection control procedures and emergency preparedness measures. Assist in the setup and breakdown of therapeutic and activity spaces, ensuring they are clean and organized. Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure the environment supports therapeutic goals and client comfort. Participate in ongoing training related to infection control, safety procedures, and behavioral health environment management.Qualifications: Any combination of training and experience that would have enabled the applicant to have acquired the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in environmental services or healthcare sanitation is preferred. Experience in housekeeping, custodial services, or environmental management, preferably in healthcare or behavioral health settings. Knowledge of infection control practices and safety regulations. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Good communication skills and the ability to follow detailed instructions. Physical ability to perform cleaning tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
