Grace Community Care of New Jersey is seeking a dependable and motivated Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide 1:1 support to a young adult male with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about teaching independence, promoting accountability, and serving as a positive role model.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Position Summary

This is not a group home position. The DSP will provide individualized support focused on helping the individual develop the life skills necessary to live as independently as possible. The DSP will coach, supervise, and encourage—not complete tasks for the individual. Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one support in the home and throughout the community.
  • Coach and prompt the individual to complete Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, meal planning, meal preparation, laundry, cleaning, and organization. The DSP should encourage independence rather than perform these tasks unless assistance is required for health or safety.
  • Transport the individual to community activities, appointments, volunteer opportunities, and recreational outings.
  • Plan and participate in enriching community experiences including:
  • Museums
  • Art exhibits
  • Libraries
  • Community events
  • Fitness activities
  • Educational workshops
  • Volunteer opportunities
  • Provide job coaching and support employment readiness, including workplace etiquette, punctuality, communication skills, and professional behavior.
  • Assist in developing a monthly community engagement and event calendar aligned with the individual's goals and interests.
  • Encourage healthy eating, exercise, budgeting, time management, and other independent living skills.
  • Implement the individual's ISP and behavior support strategies using positive reinforcement and person-centered practices.
  • Complete accurate daily documentation, service notes, and electronic time records before the end of each shift.
  • Communicate professionally with supervisors and the interdisciplinary team.
