Ultium Cells Overview:

Ultium Cells is a joint venture lithium-Ion automotive battery cell manufacturing plant between LG Energy Solutions and General Motors. This new construction high-technology plant will have the latest battery cell manufacturing technology. The investment in this new business venture represents a commitment of more than $2.3 Billion. It will be among the largest battery cell manufacturing plants in the world. Ultium Cells will produce battery cells for General Motors North American electric vehicle applications.


The Ultium cell partners include LG Energy Solutions; the world’s largest manufacturer of automotive battery cells in the world and General Motors a global company committed to delivering safer, better and more sustainable ways for people to get around.


Job Description:

The IT Engineer serves as the technical owner of manufacturing IT systems, responsible for the full lifecycle—from strategic investment planning and process logic optimization to mission-critical infrastructure management. This role ensures seamless integration between production floor operations and digital systems, maintaining operational continuity, driving technical innovation, and upholding system reliability across all IT and process integration domains.


Key Responsibilities

[Manufacturing Systems & Process Optimization]

-    Logic Validation & Engineering: Analyze, develop, and validate complex business logic within MES and logistics systems to improve operational efficiency and system performance

-    Technical Liaison: Act as a primary technical liaison between production teams and HQ, translating shop-floor requirements into technical specifications aligned with global engineering standards.

-    Advanced Structural Troubleshooting: Perform advanced troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis on complex system issues spanning across application and infrastructure layers.

-    Process Innovation: Support continuous improvement initiatives by optimizing system workflows and process logic to minimize production downtime.

[Mission-Critical Infrastructure & Governance]

-    Infrastructure Ownership: Maintain full technical ownership of mission-critical on-site data centers, servers, and facility environments, ensuring maximum system stability and uptime

-    Network & Connectivity Engineering: Oversee industrial network connectivity, including cabling and device integration, to ensure robust communication between shop-floor equipment and IT systems.

-    Technical Governance: Establish and enforce IT governance standards, ensuring strict compliance with global security policies and infrastructure guidelines.

-    Vendor Audit & Management: Manage and audit external technical partners and service providers to ensure performance quality and adherence to rigorous engineering standards.

[Strategic Planning & Asset Management]

-    Strategic Investment Planning: Lead IT investment planning and operational budget management to align technical capabilities with long-term strategic objectives.

-    Lifecycle Asset Management: Manage the full lifecycle of IT assets, including procurement, inventory tracking, maintenance, and secure disposal of high-value technical equipment.

-    General Technical Support: Provide essential technical support for both office and production environments, ensuring end-user productivity through the management of enterprise applications and communication tools.



Qualifications & Competencies

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

Technical Expertise:

-    Systems Engineering: Proven experience in MES and Logistics system logic (preferably in high-tech manufacturing such as Battery, Auto, or Display).

-    Enterprise Integration: Strong proficiency in database structures (Oracle, MS SQL), query analysis, and understanding of SAP ERP-based SCM/Manufacturing data flows.

-    Mission-Critical Infrastructure: Comprehensive understanding of servers, networks, and data center facilities to lead technical decision-making.

Analytical & Strategic Skills: Ability to perform structural root cause analysis and optimize complex system workflows.

-    Experience in IT Investment Planning, lifecycle asset management, and operational budgeting.

Collaboration & Communication:

-    Technical Liaison: Exceptional ability to bridge technical and operational teams through proactive collaboration.

-    Bilingual Proficiency: Professional fluency in both English and Korean preferred, with the ability to lead technical presentations and remote meetings with global teams (e.g., HQ).

Problem-Solving & Adaptability: Self-directed mindset with a proven ability to manage complex technical environments.

-    Willingness to support flexible operations to ensure 24/7 manufacturing continuity.

Annual refresher training will be completed every year after to fulfill the requirements of 40 CFR. Other training to be provided as required.
