About the Role
As a Staff Accountant, you will support the accounting function in a fast-growing private equity–backed SaaS company. You will assist with general ledger accounting, month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, payroll administration, sales tax compliance and reporting, and elements of the revenue cycle. You will ensure accurate financial records, compliance with GAAP and payroll regulations, and timely reporting while progressively taking ownership of assigned accounts and processes.
Reporting to the Corporate Controller, you will work closely with Revenue Accounting, FP&A, HR, and external auditors. The level of role depends upon experience.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting & Month-End Close
- Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate documentation
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Maintain accurate records in the ERP system
- Support variance analysis and resolve reconciling items
Account Reconciliations
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations including cash, prepaid expenses, accruals, and fixed assets
- Investigate discrepancies and recommend resolutions
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and reconciliation files
Revenue Cycle & Sales Tax Support
- Assist with invoicing, cash application, and customer master data maintenance
- Support deferred revenue reconciliations and revenue tie-outs
- Assist with sales tax compliance and reporting
Payroll & Employee Administration
- Process and review bi-weekly payroll to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Manage payroll adjustments including commissions, bonuses, benefit deductions, and garnishments
- Maintain payroll tax compliance at federal and state levels
- Support onboarding and offboarding of employees and contractors within payroll and HR systems
- Coordinate with international Employer of Record (EOR) providers for global payroll compliance
Expense & Asset Accounting
- Prepare operating expense accruals and review expense reimbursements
- Support capitalization and amortization of software and prepaid costs
Compliance, Controls & Audit Support
- Follow internal controls and close checklists
- Maintain clear documentation for audit readiness
- Support internal and external audits and other diligence requests
Systems & Process Improvement
- Work within accounting, billing, payroll, and HR systems
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy in financial processes
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- Level of role depends upon experience
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Understanding of payroll taxes and compliance at federal and state levels
- Experience working with accounting and financial systems (NetSuite, Maxio, BambooHR, Avalara or similar preferred)
- Ability to manage sensitive financial and employee information with discretion
