Description

PURPOSE STATEMENT

Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting patients and visitors, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries. Optimizes patients' satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments in person or by telephone. Keeps patient appointments on schedule by notifying provider/nurse of patient's arrival; reviewing service delivery compared to schedule; reminding provider of service delays. Comforts patients by anticipating patients' anxieties; answering patients' questions; maintaining the reception area. Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information. Obtains revenue by recording and updating financial information; recording and collecting patient charges; Maintains business office inventory and equipment by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies; scheduling equipment service and repairs. Helps patients in distress by responding to emergencies. Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information. Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

                   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Greet patients and visitors in a courteous and friendly manner.
  • Ensure proper flow of patient throughout the clinic
  • Perform insurance verifications on a daily basis
  • Perform patient check in and check out, instructs patients on payment requirements and collects all copays and payments due at the time of service
  • Prep next day’s charts to ensure proper referral and incoming medical information has been obtained. 
  • Answer all incoming call and routes to proper extensions
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance
  • Perform other essential duties as assigned


Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • General office work experience
  • Computer experience 
  • Medical terminology- Preferred
  • Organizational skills
  • Advanced typing skills
  • Communicate well with people both in personal contact and in telephone conversations
  • Effectively act as a liaison between patients and physicians
  • Follow oral and written instructions
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic

               

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 8 to 10 hours a day.
  • Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
  • Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
  • Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
  • Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
  • Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to life and/or carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
