Dental Hygienist (Full-Time)

Proposed Schedule: 24-40 hours per week. Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm. Shifts available for part-time and full-time status.

Position Summary

The Dental Hygienist will perform dental measures designed to preserve teeth and prevent the spread of oral disease. Participates in quality assurance and chart audits and protects patient confidentiality. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Takes and assesses medical history
• Cleans plaque, calcareous deposits, accretions and stains, including scaling and planing of exposed root surfaces, from teeth and beneath margins of gum
• Polishes teeth, including existing restorations
• Feels lymph nodes under patient’s chin to detect swelling or tenderness that could indicate presence of oral cancer
• Feels and visibly examines gums for sores and signs of disease
• Examines gums to identify recessed gums and signs of gingivitis or periodontal disease
• Applies fluorides and other cavity preventing agents to arrest dental decay 
• Charts conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by dentist
• Exposes x-ray 
• Removes excess cement from coronal surfaces of teeth
• Provides clinical services and oral health education to improve and maintain oral health of patients
• Reviews nutrition with patients and/or parents of children
• Performs caries risk assessment
• Apply topical anesthetic when indicated for complete dental prophylaxis

Qualifications: 

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability to perform the essential functions:

• Associate degree from an accredited school for hygiene
• Current NYS Dental Hygiene License with 2 years clinical experience
• Current CPR or BLS Certification

The pay rate for this position is $46.82/hour.
