Job Summary
The Rover in Nursing Support serves as a rapid response team member trained as a health unit coordinator (HUC), a transporter, and as an equipment technician in order to be assigned to assist in any capacity in Nursing Support.

Job Specific Responsibilities
Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:
• Serves as a trained HUC that must know an ICU unit, a floor unit, ETMS/Neuro units, EC, FBC, FCU, NICU, and PEDI PICU. Must learn all 22 units to be at maximum usage. Serves as last resort to be used for HUC staffing when there are floating HUCs. When HUCs are floating, will round on these units first to provide assistance.
• Serves as a trained transporter so that they can access the Teletracking system and help during peak times.
• Responds to Code Blues and Code Strokes should two (2) events occur simultaneously and the supervisor is required to attend one of these events.
• May hold Equipment Tech pager and respond to calls related to bed movement and the retrieval and return of vac pacs to the Sterile department.
• May hold the supervisor pagers should the supervisor on duty need to leave the building for lab pick up, transport of the NICU Team to the airport, etc.
• Assists with Safe Patient Handling Discharges, as required.
• If 21 years or older, may be used to retrieve offsite labs from UMC clinics after hours and on weekends
• All other assigned duties related to Nursing Support Services

Education and Experience:
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be HUC trained.
• Must be transport trained.
• Must be Equipment Technician basic trained.
• Must be trained on basic supervisory duties.

Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations
• Must be CPR certified within 90 days of hire into the role
• Must be Safe Patient Handling Certified within 90 days of hire into the role
• Current TX Driver license and the ability to be insured by UMC.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Ability to work independently, under the guidance of NSS supervisor.
• Skilled in ability to serve as a HUC in multiple units at a moment’s notice.
• Ability to be flexible and move to areas as needed.
• Good communication skills required.
• Knowledge of HUC position, transporter position, and basic equipment technician required.

Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
Internal: All of the ancillary departments that NSS serves. Must work very well with the NSS in house supervisor and the house supervisor as needed.
External: Patients, family members, external lab personnel.

Physical Capabilities
This is a very physically demanding job and the employee is on their feet for most of the shift. This position requires the ability to adapt from unit to unit, pushing pulling of beds and wheelchairs and the work of a huc and equipment technician interspersed. Lifting pulling and pushing from 10-20 pounds.

Environmental/Working Conditions
This position is subject to internal hospital temperatures. Workdays go along with the schedule selected which can be 7a-3p, 8a-4p, 9a-5p, 3p-11p and 11p-7a. These shifts are available Monday through Sunday.
