We began our practice in 1981 out of a small office in Warwick, and now we have eight locations spanning Warwick, Cranston, North Kingstown, Wakefield, and Woonsocket. Our dedicated team of ophthalmologists and optometrists is devoted to providing top-notch, stress-free care to our patients.

Koch Eye is looking for an Ophthalmic Scribe. The role of the scribe is to assist the physician with documentation of the patient’s medical record. The scribe accompanies the physician into the exam room to transcribe the history and examination as given by the patient and the physician.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accompany the physician into the exam room to transcribe the history and examination as given by the patient and the physician.
  • Anticipate physicians’ needs and respond to requests for instruments, supplies, and equipment during patient care session.
  • Under the direction of the physician, transcribe the impression and plan, results of tests, prescriptions, and orders.
  • Document any procedures that may be performed by the physician or ophthalmic medical personnel.
  • Document all diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, and discharge and follow-up information.
  • Transcribe any consultations or discussions with family members.
  • Enter data into electronic medical record database.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
  • Maintain an environment conducive to the delivery of efficient, quality eye care.
  • Assist with patient care, as directed by the physician.
  • Demonstrate flexibility with job assignments.
  • Perform general duties and other functions as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of ophthalmic anatomy and physiology, diseases, treatments, and surgeries.
  • Proficiency with medical terminology, abbreviations, and acronyms and working with EMR.
  • Ability to deliver exceptional patient care with a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and legibility.
  • Team oriented with a proven ability to establish strong working relationships across the organization.
  • Must possess the physical, mental, and cognitive skills needed to complete essential tasks, including abilities such as learning, remembering, focusing, categorizing, and integrating information for comprehension, problem-solving, and timely decision-making. 
  • Ethical and discreet to protect privacy of patient information.
  • Prior scribing preferred.
  • Ability to travel to other locations.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) preferred, but not required.
