Asphalt & Screed Operations
Proven experience working on an asphalt paver screed (extensions, end gates, depth control)
Ability to assist with setting and maintaining proper grade, slope, and mat thickness
Knowledge of asphalt mix behavior, temperature control, and material flow
Experience adjusting screed settings to ensure smooth, uniform paving results
Understanding of hand-work techniques behind the paver to correct imperfections
Construction & Jobsite Skills
Strong familiarity with paving tools and equipment (lutes, rakes, shovels, hand tampers)
Ability to read grades, string lines, and basic paving plans
Awareness of jobsite sequencing and coordination with paver operator and roller crew
Knowledge of proper joint construction and edge control
Safety & Quality Focus
Commitment to following all company and OSHA safety standards
Ability to identify potential safety hazards and respond appropriately
Attention to detail to ensure finished surfaces meet quality and durability expectations
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
Ability to perform physically demanding work in outdoor conditions
Capable of standing for long periods and working around hot materials
Willingness to work early mornings, extended hours, and occasional weekends as needed
Team & Communication Skills
Strong teamwork mindset and ability to take direction from foreman and lead operators
Clear communication with crew members to maintain workflow and safety
Dependable, punctual, and consistent work ethic
Preferred Qualifications
2+ years of experience on an asphalt paving crew, specifically on or around the screed
Experience with highway, commercial, or municipal paving projects
Valid driver’s license (CDL a plus, but not required)
