Position Overview


Oak Ridge Industries is currently seeking an experienced hands-on Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in machining, fabrication, and industrial equipment. This role is not desk-only—you will be directly involved on the shop floor, and in the field, solving real-world problems, designing practical solutions, and managing work from concept through delivery/installation.

Requirements

 Key Responsibilities


  • Work directly in the shop and in the field to troubleshoot various issues and develop practical, cost-effective solutions
  • Collaborate closely in-house with machinists, fabricators, field service teams, and operators to understand problems, operating constraints, and manufacturing limitations
  • Reverse engineer existing parts and equipment, including machined components, assemblies, and legacy equipment
  • Design machine parts, weldments, and mechanical assemblies for custom equipment, repairs, and upgrades
  • Create and review shop-ready drawings for machining and fabrication, ensuring designs are practical and manufacturable
  • Review, interpret, and work from existing customer drawings, prints, and documentation
  • Select materials, tolerances, and manufacturing processes appropriate for machining, welding, and industrial service environments
  • Create jobs, order materials, and manage projects through machining, fabrication, and 
  • Be present on the shop floor to answer questions, resolve issues, and support production
  • Provide technical support to sales by assisting with estimates, job scoping, machining feasibility reviews, and cost evaluations

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred (or equivalent hands-on experience)
  • Experience in industrial maintenance, fabrication, or field service environments preferred
  • Proven experience as a hands-on mechanical engineer in industrial, manufacturing, machining, or fabrication environments
  • Experience designing custom machined components, repair parts, and short-run or one-off equipment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot equipment in real-world plant and field conditions
  • Comfortable working in shops, plants, and field environments as required
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and see them through from start to finish
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with customers and shop personnel
  • Computer proficiency, including CAD software
