Position Overview The Academic Interventionist is responsible for accelerating student achievement by delivering targeted, evidence-based instruction to students performing below grade level. This role operates within LEARN DC’s MTSS framework and is accountable for ensuring that intervention leads to measurable, sustained student growth, not just additional instructional time.   Core Responsibilities Targeted Intervention (Tier 2 & Tier 3) Provide daily small-group instruction aligned to identified skill gaps in literacy and/or math Implement evidence-based practices aligned to OSSE Evidence DC and the Science of Reading Deliver instruction using a consistent structure: Clear objective Explicit modeling Guided practice Frequent checks for understanding Immediate feedback Data-Driven Instruction & Progress Monitoring Analyze multiple data sources (mCLASS, NWEA MAP, i-Ready, internal assessments) to identify precise skill gaps Group students based on specific skills (not levels) Monitor student progress weekly and adjust instruction in real time Maintain accurate and up-to-date intervention trackers aligned to school expectations Closing Achievement Gaps Design and implement targeted plans to accelerate learning for students below grade level Ensure students demonstrate measurable growth toward grade-level proficiency Exit students from intervention when mastery is achieved and adjust groups accordingly Collaboration & MTSS Alignment Collaborate with classroom teachers, Special Education staff, and leadership to align Tier 1 and Tier 2/3 instruction Participate in MTSS meetings, data cycles, and instructional planning Support teachers in strengthening core instruction through insight into student needs Instructional Excellence  Demonstrate strong instructional practices aligned to the Danielson Framework for Teaching (Domains 2 & 3) Maintain a structured, engaging, and inclusive learning environment Use questioning, discourse, and feedback to ensure active student engagement and mastery Family Communication Communicate student progress clearly and consistently with families Support families in understanding how to reinforce skills at home What You'll NeedQualifications Required Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field Demonstrated success improving student academic outcomes Strong data analysis and instructional planning skills Preferred Master’s degree in Education or related field Experience in urban education settings Experience with MTSS/RTI frameworks Familiarity with CKLA, Fishtank, i-Ready, NWEA MAP, and mCLASS Highly Effective or Highly Rated on the Danielson Framework Core Competencies Equity & Urgency Demonstrates an unwavering belief that all students can achieve at high levels Takes ownership of student outcomes and acts with urgency Precision in Instruction Identifies and addresses specific skill gaps Uses targeted strategies rather than general support Data Literacy Uses data instinctively to drive decisions Adjusts instruction based on evidence of student progress Collaboration Works effectively within a team to support student success Aligns intervention with core instruction Success Metrics (How Performance Will Be Measured) Student growth on mCLASS, NWEA MAP, and i-Ready Reduction in the percentage of students below grade level Evidence of weekly progress monitoring and instructional adjustments Alignment between intervention and Tier 1 instruction Demonstration of Danielson-aligned instructional practices What Sets This Role Apart at LEARN DC Intervention is not remediation—it is acceleration Instruction is targeted, not generalized Success is measured by student outcomes, not time spent Every decision is grounded in data and evidence-based practice At LEARN DC, the Interventionist is a key driver of our mission—ensuring that every student receives the precise instruction they need to succeed.
