Job Summary
The Classroom Aide supports the classroom teacher in creating a safe, organized, and engaging learning environment that promotes the academic, social, emotional, and spiritual development of students. Working under the direction of the classroom teacher and school administration, the Classroom Aide assists with instructional activities, classroom management, preparation of educational materials, and supervision of students while supporting the mission and values of the Catholic school.
This is a full-time, hourly position that follows the school calendar and is active while school is in session.
Job Responsibilities
Instructional Support
- Assist the classroom teacher in implementing daily instructional activities and lesson plans.
- Reinforce academic concepts and skills introduced by the classroom teacher through individual and small-group instruction.
- Provide additional support to students as directed by the classroom teacher.
- Assist with classroom projects, learning centers, and other educational activities.
- Encourage positive student participation and engagement while promoting appropriate classroom behavior.
Classroom Management
- Help maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
- Assist with classroom supervision during instructional time, transitions, arrival, dismissal, and other activities as assigned.
- Provide classroom coverage when requested by the teacher or school administration.
- Support the teacher in maintaining classroom routines and behavior expectations.
Classroom Preparation
- Prepare instructional materials, classroom supplies, and learning resources for daily lessons and activities.
- Assist in setting up and organizing classroom materials before instruction.
- Clean, organize, and properly store instructional materials and equipment after classroom activities.
- Maintain classroom organization and inventory of supplies.
Student Support
- Foster respectful relationships with students while serving as a positive role model.
- Encourage student independence, responsibility, and cooperation.
- Assist with monitoring student safety and well-being throughout the school day.
- Support students with classroom routines and assigned tasks while promoting a positive learning environment.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform lunch, recess, hallway, or other supervisory duties as assigned.
- Communicate professionally with teachers, administrators, staff, and parents as appropriate.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, and school matters.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or classroom teacher.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree or college coursework in education or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience working with children in an educational, childcare, or youth ministry setting is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to work effectively with children of various ages and learning abilities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively as part of a teaching team.
- Demonstrated patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Basic proficiency with classroom technology and educational software is preferred.
