Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Charge Nurse and Nurse Assistant Manager, the Medical Assistant provides basic patient care in a correctional health center setting. The Medical Assistant is an integral member of the care team responsible for supporting clinical operations, assisting providers, and ensuring efficient patient flow while maintaining high standards of patient care and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain patient and Electronic Health Record (EHR) confidentialityÂ
- Prepare patients and EHR for provider visits and assist during examinations as neededÂ
- Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, chief complaint, and patient medical historyÂ
- Perform routine clinical and laboratory procedures, including urine dipsticks, phlebotomy, finger/heel sticks, injections, immunizations, and EKGsÂ
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and supply levels in clinical areasÂ
- Support pre-visit planning for Primary Provider and PCMH team workflowsÂ
- Provide basic chronic disease education to patients as neededÂ
- Coordinate referrals, appointments, and follow-up for patientsÂ
- Communicate effectively with providers and care team to ensure continuity of careÂ
- Maintain clinical logs, equipment checks, and sterilization processesÂ
- Adhere to Universal Precautions and Unity Health Care policies and proceduresÂ
- Perform other duties as assignedÂ
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED requiredÂ
- Certification as a Clinical Medical AssistantÂ
- Current BLS + AED CPR certificationÂ
- Strong communication and interpersonal skillsÂ
- Ability to work effectively in a correctional health setting and with diverse populationsÂ
