Job Summary:

Whiteford is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Paralegal to join its growing Community Associations practice in its Washington DC office. This is an excellent opportunity for a paralegal who enjoys taking ownership of their work, developing strong relationships with attorneys and clients, and playing an active role in moving matters from start to finish.

As a member of the Community Associations team, you will work closely with attorneys and clients on matters involving the collection of past-due assessments for community association clients. You will manage your own portfolio of matters while collaborating with an experienced team in a fast-paced and engaging practice.

Successful candidates will be organized, responsive, proactive, and enjoys problem-solving, takes pride in delivering excellent client service, and knows how to keep matters moving forward.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a high-volume portfolio, including monitoring deadlines, account activity, case status, and next steps.
  • Work closely with attorneys to prepare correspondence, pleadings, motions, lawsuits, court filings, reports, and other related documents.
  • Review, reconcile, and maintain account information in accordance with governing documents, applicable laws, and client requirements.
  • Engage regularly and professionally with clients, board members, management companies, attorneys, and other parties regarding matter status and next steps.
  • Research and apply applicable laws, procedural requirements, governing documents, and firm resources to support matters across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Independently organize and prioritize work, anticipate next steps, and proactively advance matters while meeting deadlines and client expectations.


Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to independently manage a high-volume workload while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to anticipate and take appropriate next steps.
  • Ability to learn and apply new information, processes, and jurisdiction-specific requirements.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Professional, responsive, and client-service-focused approach to working with attorneys, clients, colleagues, and outside parties.
  • Comfort learning and using legal technology, document management systems, and other software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Prior law firm, collections, and/or timekeeping experience is preferred.


Education and Experience:

  • 2+ years of paralegal, legal support, or collections experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree in paralegal studies, and/or Paralegal Certification preferred.
